Yasmine15585's Journal, 07 Feb 18

I usually weigh in today, but I've decided to weigh in on Saturday mornings instead.

Saturday tends to be my treat day and it only makes sense to weigh as far away from treat days as possible.

I also could really do with seeing a bigger loss with the 3 extra days I have this week. Getting tired of not loosing as much as I was and eating better than I was. Today I'm having some cream, pasta and avocado to boost my calories a bit and hope my metabolism gets a bit of a surge.

Good plan! Saturday’s are normally my cheat days as well so I might do the same, at the moment my weigh in days are Fridays but I think I’m going to change to a Saturday morning now you’ve mentioned it! Great thinking

Hi, I’m pretty new to this but I’ve heard that it’s good to have a cheat day once a week. Do you have 1 treat like a donut or can you eat anything you want all day? Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question!

I think it's a good plan too Tamara! Hi Angel.G, I try not to go overboard on treat day as it can undo hard work. So I stick to maybe a McDonald's and a dessert for example, something healthier later on in the day. Or a pizza and some ice cream etc...

Oh that makes sense, thank you!

Yeah, it's a bummer when your weight loss slows down. Losing less per week was always going to happen, but I just miss those fist pump moments at weigh in time. Sigh...

Is treat day part of the 5/2 diet or 6/1...or are you all taking what are good ideas from different diets...e.g. weight watchers & 5/2?

umm dozyjane, I'm just counting calories lol. it's working for me!

Dozyjane I'm the same as Yasmine, counting calories and it's working for me too. Been pretty easy peasy for me so far this way without doing weird fad diets. And treat day is just easing off one day a week so you have something to look forward to, it makes the other 6 days far easier and there's not much damage you can do in one day (within reason).

In my opinion, keto is the best - and yet most underrated and doubted - diet around. #KetoForLife
I dunno about that. keto is as popular as the Atkins diet was.

I have a friend who went 3 month keto and lost plenty. He's now starting to diet to lose it again. He now sees keto as a quick fix that isn't sustainable for life and is counting calories instead. Each to their own I suppose, but it seems keto is pushed very aggressively by people doing it. it's not for everyone.

I have to agree. I've never tried keto but it does seem to me to be the latest fad. I've no doubt it works but I can't see it being sustainable for any great length of time. The only true way to diet to me is by counting calories.

Yes Woobie, "fad" is probably the word I'd use for it too. 1g carb = 4 calories, it's not rocket science or some black magic that makes you lose weight in any different way to any other form of dieting. And it's not going to change your eating habits which got you into trouble in the first place which is why my friend put it all back on rapidly when he stopped keto (because you can't/won't go carb free for life). May as well start off changing habits and directly controlling calories from the start which is what you'll eventually need to do anyway. I'm waiting for the keto backlash now, as people following keto seem extremely adamant it's the only way. Still... I'm a big boy.

I'm in total agreement with you. Keto alone isn't the 'miracle fix' to your issues; you still have to count calories; you still have to track what you eat and how much. The only difference is meeting your macronutrient requirements - which can be a challenge for me - and staying strict with what you eat. In my view, it's worth the effort to have my body actively helping me, rather than trying to slow me down. And, of course, leaving keto is about your self-control. It's obvious that consuming more calories than you burn in any given period will just lead to weight gain. The sustainability of it depends on what sort of lifestyle you live. I'm at Uni myself, so the active section of my days tend to be for just several hours spread over a short period. Someone working a full-time job, however, wouldn't have the luxury of such a scheduled lifestyle. A 'fad' though? I wouldn't call it that. I - just like many others - am proof that it works... So long as you maintain self-control on what you eat.
Good for you, it's all about what works for each individual. No rights and no wrongs as long as it works. Times have changed though, 25 years ago a student couldn't afford to be overweight. Tea time would be hunt the pot noodle time.

Trust me, affording to be overweight was never - and is still not - a reality for (most) students 😉😂
