So I was sitting in a boring meeting where everyone was eating chocolate cookies. I easily resisted their scrumptiousness for some time, but I got hungrier while the meeting got boringer and longer. So I decided one wouldn't hurt. One bite into it, I froze and realized that- duh!-- cookies are made of wheat, and I am (*was*) fasting from wheat for my allergy elimination test. Well, nothing happened. I don't feel any different without my suspected allergens anyway, and I'm wondering if I should throw in the towel on the test. I could use a nice refreshing glass of soymilk about now.

It takes time for your body to eliminate the toxins. The longer you are off of your allergen, the more you can tolerate if some sneaks in. You don't get sick or feel lousy from one bite, it's from having that food daily that you feel that way. It takes people 3-6 months to recover completely from eliminating allergens, depending on their intolerance. Then if you do reintroduce the food every day you will feel lousy again after a few days or maybe immediately, but it doesn't always occur with just one bite. I know from experience. If you don't feel a little bit better after a month of elimination you might still have an allergen in your diet. I know it is really tedious and complicated. Try to look up a true elimination diet for allergen testing. Good luck.

Oh, other common allergens are chocolate, milk, eggs, cheese, corn, and nuts.

thanks, Sara. Yes, it is very tedious and complicated! I have read about true elimination diets-- the two books I have say there are varying levels of intensity, and that my intensity is on the lazy end. :) I read that the better way to do it is to go on a fast of vegetable juice. I would be more than happy to do this if I thought it would work for me... but I am terrified because I have a history of hypoglycemia when I don't eat very much... I start to get very weak and dizzy and confused and depressed and if it goes on long enough I hallucinate. They say you should never fast if you have any history of hypoglycemia, but I don't know what else to do. ?

oh, also not eating for a while makes me REALLY irritable. I'm afraid I would lose my job or something, unless I took time off. the books I read were the false fat diet and the diet cure (which is not entirely about allergies but has a couple chapters on them).
