heidij123's Journal, 03 May 17

Did something this evening that I haven't done for ages. I went to a bar and didn't have a drink 😀 I've decided to give up alcohol completely for the month of May. It shouldn't be hard, as I don't drink at home now anyway, so it's only when I go out. But I do like to have a drink when I'm in company, as it makes me more chatty. However, I am telling myself that I can be just as chatty without the booze, and have just as good a time. Tonight was good, anyway 😀

We actually have several meals out and social occasions lined up over the next three weeks, and then our trip back to the UK in our camper van when I would normally be tempted to drink in the evenings, so I think I will save a heap of calories over the month. If I still haven't reached my goal weight by the time we get back to the UK, I will probably carry on with the 'no booze' policy till I do reach goal. Well, it's only three pounds to go. How long can it take?

What do you drink instead, Heidi? I find most soft drinks far too sweet and sparkling water gets boring as I drink a lot of it at home. Maybe it's my mindset - I never seem to find wine boring ... 🤔

I drink on a weekend at home, but whenever I go out, I don't drink alcohol. My favourite tipple is a St Clements, in summer just add ice.

Glen, it's a camper, small motorhome, or miniature RV. Has a little kitchen, and very small bathroom with toilet and shower, but we don't use the shower much. We rent a house in Spain, much more spacious! The van is just for travelling/holidays.

Phooka - I have been drinking just plain bottled water this week. I don't like sweet stuff either. I sometimes have diet coke in bars, but that's usually in the daytime as a tea replacement, as Spanish tea is served in small cups, and I like to drink plenty, and if I want a caffeine hit, that's my best bet. Coffee make me I'll, by the way. I drink water at home, so I'm happy to drink it when I'm out, too. Don't know what I'll do in the UK, though. Prices in pubs are outrageous!

Debbie and Mrs M, thanks for the encouragement! I just want to get there 😬🙄 We have a static caravan in Sussex, on a very nice, quiet, leafy park that backs onto the Downs. We love it!
