success62's Journal, 30 Jan 17

OK so I've been good since I started back at the slimming club 4th Jan. 10lb lost in the three weeks, but last week stayed the same weight. Can't fathom that since I had not cheated at all. Two days till next club night so still plugging away and not going above calorie allowance. I realise if I look back at my history it's pathetic and all the painful restrictions of food intake and misery have only resulted in me getting fatter by the year. Trying to be content to aim at 1lb loss per week and continuing on the 52lb in 52week challenge on Myfitnesspal. Family meal coming up this weekend - so often the end of all my good intentions and efforts.

You know, I really think you're being a bit hard on yourself. 10lb lost in three weeks is fantastic! You want to keep it off for good so keep to the calorie count and DON'T deprive yourself when it comes to a family get together. You will lose weight, slow and steady is the way to go I think. I've done all the fad diets in the past only to experience some very strange and unsociable side effects and a general increase in weight long term. Along the lines of 'the only way to change the result is to change the ingredients' I've finally opted for smaller portions of the foods I love, along with gradual swaps to leaner ingredients such as, I love pasta but have now found I don't need a creamy, heavy sauce and just adding mushroons, garlic, leeks, lean ham and a glug of wine is actually a lot more tasty and far more acceptable in calories and grating cheese on a fine grater looks like you're having far more than you are or just a stronger cheese means you need less - leaves me taking in less calories but still a very happy bunny. Gone are the days of sucking on a lettuce leaf and boring the pants off my mates by knowing the calorie content of every food item. Real life, real food, just slightly less of it and slightly more time getting off my backside and I should be set to go. Stop kicking yourself up the backside, you are doing BRILLIANTLY!!! Enjoy yourself and next time you're in the supermarket, pick up the equivalent of your weight loss in bags of sugar or flour and really see how far you've come. x

Don't be so hard on yourself! Oh I know that's easy to say, and it was me last week as well, but honestly, keep at it, keep calorie counting and it WILL come off. If you need to up your game, make a few little changes do a little walk every day in addition to any exercise you may already be doing.. keep going!

KP and Andrea are right. You're being hard on yourself. It's a long process and it isn't linear. There will be plateaus on the way that seem harsh as you've stuck to your diet perfectly and there will be losses when you've been a bit lax. Take the good ones and be patient with the bad ones. All the best with your goal 👍

You are experiencing a normal body reaction which is common in many people. I can’t explain why it happens but I know for sure it does. I am expecting it to happen to me soon as my weight loss is good so far, just like yours but I know it won’t last, I know it will either level out for a time or take a small rise for a week. I understand you feeling a little confused or demoralised but it will break and the loss will be substantial again. You have done amazingly well please don’t let it get to you just keep going you will win I assure you.

I agree with everyone else: you are being hard on yourself. Ten lbs over three weeks is really impressive. But go back and have a look at your diet calendar. What you'll see is that not only have your calories crept up a little at times, but so has your carb consumption. I'm not being critical - I'd be the last to do this, as I've had weeks of treading water and going up from time to time - but you might find it useful to cut the carbs a bit. Best wishes and good luck.

Indeed 10lbs in three weeks is pretty good, I've lost the same before I started this account, I'm still 19 stone though so no merit points there ! You can't lose every day and every week, daily scales visits are demoralising so avoid that too! 10lbs, so next time you go to the supermarket and visit the fridge section just look at the size of 20 blocks of Lard.... You are already that far into weight loss in 3 weeks, it takes years to put on, it won't go in a month. Well done you (and me) :-)

Thanks everyone for your caring and interest. Yes, I'm plugging away and I'm enjoying the food that I like. I agree about lowering carbs and have done well in the past by keeping daily carbs below 40grammes. I never felt hungry and it wasn't a chore but I found it difficult to incorporate into daily life - eating with others, and the sudden craving for baked potatoes! Going to the slimming club I have found to be the best way to sustain a good eating lifestyle - the trouble is, when I stop, all the weight and more comes back! I know you'll all say it's a change for life - that's the problem, I love food and I'm basically a greedy person. I don't mean to sound serious - in all things I keep a sense of humour and an acute sense of the ridiculousness of trying to lose weight when a large part of the human race is starving! Good luck all, and happy dieting.

10 pounds is brilliant, well done to you! I look at my diet as a lifestyle change, I am still eating things I like but in smaller portions and I have cut out the bad stuff which was making me fat!
