heidij123's Journal, 05 Mar 16

Well, it's been a busy week with our friend. We drove into the mountains a couple of times, and down to the coast a couple of times, for days out. Also did a local walk taking in our village and the neighbouring village. And we took her along to our music practice, and she had a wander round the village there, and to the quiz, where we did surprisingly badly, but it was just one of those weeks. She seemed to really enjoy it all.

We ate out either lunch or dinner every day, mostly 3 courses plus bread, wine and some days beer as well, and I tried to make up for it a little by not eating too much the rest of the time. I got a fair bit of exercise! I'm pleased to say my weight, although it fluctuated mid-week, was the same when I weighed today as it was on Monday. I think I can soon lose the couple of pounds I've put on overall. I haven't logged calories, but have estimated in my spreadsheet, and I think my calorie intake and output were roughly similar over the last 7 days, give or take a few hundred, so I think the extra weight will be mostly glycogen and water.

Back to sensible eating and logging today, and no more alcohol till weight is back down. It was fun, though, and interesting to find that I could sort of 'manage' things! I think it helped that I could weigh every day, and also could eat my normal breakfast and normal foodstuffs at home, so it was different from being on holiday away from home. And it makes me think that maybe maintenance won't be as difficult as I imagined?

A high calorie break is supposed to boost future weight loss. At least that is what I keep telling myself every time I have a holiday or the like!

Lol, Jocko! Well, I think the weight you put on in a week will generally go off in a week too. It's like that effect you get in your first week or two of dieting, where it all seems easy. Soon slows down to a crawl again once that glycogen/water weight has gone. I have to say, looking at my graph, that after a couple of weeks back on the wagon, I always end up where my trend line was going anyway. Touch wood!

@Glen, I never feel deprived! I can generally make room in my eating plan for anything I fancy, and if necessary can make up for it by having a bit less the next day. If I had to feel deprived, I wouldn't be able to do this. I think I have learned not to 'want' high-calorie treats every day though!

Congratulations on eating 3 course meals several days on the trot and not rocking the boat much :) . With your dedication and willpower I am sure you will be fine. Glad that you did not let your eating get in the way of enjoying your friend's company.

Heidi, do the restaurants start your meals with olives and sherry? My youngest step daughter and her husband traveled to Spain and said they were served trays of olives at lunch and dinner. The sherry was probably their idea! :) I was given a jar of olives from Spain years ago. The brand name was Yberra. Have you seen this brand in the stores? If you like olives, these were the best I have ever had.

Wonderful that you can enjoy yourself while out with friends , and still maintain.

@Scalewatcher - your stepdaughter was probably in a different region of Spain, maybe Andalucia, or around Madrid. Here they start meals with bread and a dip/spread of garlic mayonnaise, which they call 'alioli', which is difficult to resist when you're hungry, so I eat it. Sherry comes from Jerez, and 'sherry' is an anglicisation of 'Jerez'. It's a long way from here! We are about an hour north of Alicante. I haven't particularly noticed people drinking any kind of local aperitif, they certainly don't drink sherry, and as far as I know, people start off drinking wine and/or water, and continue with that. Beer is popular in bars, as well as coffee, wine, and local brandy.

I don't remember where they stayed in Spain. They travel all the time. That is interesting information about Sherry and Jerez. I like a touch of Sherry now and then. honestly since I've beenon this LCHF diet I rarely drink alcohol any more. Last night I did treat myself to 5 oz. of Clos du Bois Cabernet Sauvignon.

You did well there Heidi, only a couple of pounds gain is a great achievement when you have had visitors to consider too.
