For Suma
Modigliani: Roma Woman with Baby (1919)
National Gallery of Art, Washington DC

Controlled yet intense, you can hear his brush strokes as they left his quiet anguish on the canvas.

Yfritz…I have typed a thank you for sharing this beautiful painting and both times FS has not saved it😭. Thank you for thinking of me💙💚💜. You are incredibly perceptive as always. There’s some quality about her that reminds me of me. Is that vain? I don’t mean to be. There’s a sadness and a strength in her face…a hopelessness and yet all hope is not lost. I’m just back from a rough day at work…I’m smiling and crying while looking at her. How are you? Have you had a good day? I missed your birthday. Happy Belated Birthday…I hope you had a wonderful day 🎂🍷🍸

Love it. So much better than looking at pictures of food. I used to live, go to school, and work in the District before I moved to California. Hitting up the museums and galleries (and zoo) was free entertainment.

Suma. No of course you’re not vain. It’s Modigliani’s painting vocabulary that reminds me of you. His strokes, color distribution, wistful forms. Look how he treated the neck. So tender yet forceful, you feel the woman’s vocal cord inside, her sorrow is contained there, never uttered but penetrating. In a sense he painted your secret. I go see this painting occasionally. Glad to hear your voice again.

Hello banana🍌 my birthday sister 👯‍♀️ Did you like DC Metro area? DC stresses me out. Funny you mentioned food photo fatigue. I feel detached from all these diet/fitness talks as well. I don’t belong here. But I miss the friends I met here, do you? BTW i loved your NSV🤣 good for you for turning down the invitation, I feel you, going out with a dude you are not attracted to can be super boring, damaging even. I used to do that out of sheer loneliness and stupidity. Congrats on conquering loneliness. Have fun, flirt, titillate, show off your beautiful self💕

Andrew, next time I’ll post a painting of a busty gal. Still madly in love with your wife?❤️‍🔥 I know the answer is yes, and that makes you beautiful

He’s one of my favorites. So many examples of his work at the Barnes Museum near me.

Ms. Fritz, I loved DC because life was never boring there. I do not miss the sleet & snow. I DO miss the museums and zoo, all the amazing restaurants and the Kennedy Center, shopping in Georgetown and all the blues concerts in jazz clubs. I miss fireflies and thunderstorms in the summer, and the colors in autumn. But Southern California has surfing, only 3 weeks of rain a year, gorgeous warm weather so you can ride a motorcycle most of the time, and such a laid-back lifestyle. It's just so different than DC.

Gorgeous! The intensity of the color of the woman and the baby's hat are in such stark contrast to the drabness of their surroundings. You can feel the sadness in her eyes and the vibrancy of life in them. I wonder if it is coincidence or a deliberate commentary on the aftermath of WWI and the Spanish Flu? The woman who sat for this would likely have been intimate with loss...

Banana, how many years ago was that? I remember DC had soul decades ago. Now it’s shallow and neurotic. Kennedy Ctr events are laughably 2nd rate or worse. People here are always outraged for the sake of outrage. Gentrification. Giant rats. Privileged people pretending to care about humanity. I take motorcycle ride to the beach anytime. Please get me out of this place.
