Since the 1970s, any weight loss pill that has been introduced to the market has been banned. :( There's currently only one on the market that is approved for weight loss. What are the odds of it being banned and causing health problems? My guess is pretty high. Scary stuff.

Most diet pills as far as I know are meant to block your bodies absorbtion of fat...because for some reason modern medicine says that whole grain carbs are good and all fat is bad. Yet, the last I heard your body doesnt require carbs to survive...it requires fat. Your entire central nervous system relies on fats to operate....and what is your brain made of? fat!

I'm surprised alli is still on the market tbh. I read a study a while ago (like a year or two) about it causing permanent liver/kidney/etc damage and toxicity because it is absorbed into the body and interferes with a very important detoxifying process. Not a good thing there.

i heard that some weight loss pills had tapeworm eggs in them, so they did make you loose weight but yeah...

Yep! Chad you are correct!

I agree with Fit about alli. Honestly, when you read the disclaimers and hear the possible side effects, the LAST thing I'm thinking is oh yeah, sign me up. Every time I hear of a new weightloss pill, I think of the lyrics to Go Ask Alice ;-)

I believe the same thing. They all end up being taken off the market, so they're obviously not healthy and could cause death! The pills are an easy way out that cause more harm than good. They just need to work on changing their habits. Once habits are changed, the person changes. Once that happens, the weight can remain gone for life. The habits thing is the same reason why weight loss surgeries don't usually work.

I have been watching a series of videos on youtube. "The men who made us fat" and "The men who made us thin." It's amazing. In episode three there's a guy who's involved in a trial where they insert a tube into your stomach. You eat and 20 minutes later open the valve to drain the chyme out. Clinicalized bulimia? Where are we going! I agree with the comments on ingested fat above. It's absolutely necessary, however, I believe the vilification of any macronutrient, whether carbs, proteins, or fats, is a mistake. The problem is we are not taught how our bodies use foods so we don't know which ones simply don't make sense. To make it worse, how we use our bodies also affects what we should and can eat.

Yeah, it never made sense to me why nutrition isn't a bigger part of our education. (Nutrition and credit/debt management). The things we need the most are completely left out of our educational experience. A couple of years ago, I was sitting around with a group of friends and I was BLOWN AWAY when someone had to have the difference between calories/fat/carbs explained to her. I had to stop myself and look at where she came from and it could be a possibility that she wouldn't know those things already.

NM, I agree....and disagree. We've become a society that wants fast, easy and cheap. I know precious little about the intricacies of how our bodies use food. With my limited knowledge though, I still realize that toast and butter doesn't make a healthy breakfast. It DID meet the criteria of fast and easy though. Diet pills IMO are much the same. There is the choice to re-educate and train yourself which takes time and effort - or pop a pill and let the magic happen. Even armed with knowledge, I suspect a lot of people will still opt for the pills.

We know more about nutrition than we used to thanks to the internet and widespread information. Now we know good nutrition and exercising is better than any diet pill, no matter what the slick ads taunt us with. God knows , I am ashamed to say, I have been sucked in enough to know better.

When was the study done?

There was a time when everyone took diet pills. We all want a quick fix. They worked wonderful at first, then they didn't and you needed to take 2 to get the same results you got with one. I had a friend that had heart damage due to taking too many in order to lose weight.

I agree Bill. Most of them seem to block ingested fat from being digested. Throwback to the 'fat is evil' mindset. We know how tough it is though to set your mind to it. Sometimes I think weight loss has more to do with the mind than calories. That is, until the mind has come to grips with the problem the resolve isn't there.
