Thanks Jenny, Keilin, Aintgotaname, One, Bearnoggin and Melissa!!! I'm retired now. We baked cookies and crackers. I was more of a cracker fan myself. They didn't give away anything. The company ground up everything that they couldn't pack and added some back in the form of meal into each new batch of dough. The machine I ran made chocolate wafers for ice cream sandwiches. Gingerbread men had one of the most intense flavors so we ran them on days we needed to use up a lot of meal...

Well, I guess that's good (no waste)! But too bad they didn't give you a few every now and then. My hubby worked for a food warehouse and every once in a very great while they'd get to bring something home.

Bearnoggin, the company did have a store for employees nearby at reduced prices. Also, we could eat all the products produced that day, but we had to eat them in the cafeteria. Most of today's crackers aren't made in the traditional way. Many no longer use yeast. They changed the process and changed an 18-hour process into a 45-minute process with the use of enzymes instead of yeast. The result is an often a similar product and with a lot of flavoring. One may become addicted to the flavor. It's designed that way...

I'm not exactly sure how to say this. But I'm giving it a shot! I don't know a sweeter, kinder person on this site. Your faithful love and pride in your wife and children is so beautiful. Your making life sweeter for others seems to be in your very soul. You are a blessing! When I make gingerbread cookies with my kids this week, I will surely be thinking of you! And... Remembering not to eat too many!
