Yesterday I was determined to go for my walk and I did so. The good news is that I finally rounded up my exercise buddy to go with me and we are going to go again this evening. I am glad I am getting into a routine with her because that will help me keep up with the exercise. The problem has been that I used to go in the morning but my sleeping schedule has changed because of Chuck and I somehow can't get into the right routine anymore. I need to meditate on that some more because I want to spend time with him but I do not want to sacrifice my own needs. We play basketball frequently but that doesn't quite make up for my walks. This morning I am having fresh mango orange juice that I made in the juicer and it is delicious. I have never juiced a mango before and I like the results. Chuck is going to have some when he gets home from work. I have made some progress on getting him to eat fruits and beans (ie, soymilk, anyway) but there is still room for more vegetables. It will take time because of his veggie allergies and because he has been in the same routine for a long time. But he is coming around to the compromise and trying new things and eating spinach. He likes a lot of the new things and is proud of himself for expanding. He is being *somewhat* open-minded to trying other veggies in the future. I will work on him. :) Interestingly enough, as part of the 1 lb a week for Christmas challenge, I have been paying attention to how I feel when I eat healthily (or unhealthily) and it seems like when I eat more like Chuck, my body is more sore the next morning-- a problem he has been having since I have known him. Actually he hasn't complained about it since I've had him try all these new things, so I will have to ask him-- perhaps some progress has been made on the arthritis issue already after all! I have been steering him away from bad fats and bad carbs and toward good fats and good carbs. I told him my diet buddies would support me when I say that fat-free is not always the best for you. He likes to eat a bunch of pizza and then "make up" for it with fat free foods. So you guys are unwittingly helping back me up :) He seems to be taking my nutrition advice to heart. Anyhoo, I am also trying to get back into stretching. I did it yesterday and will work on it again today. I ate too much yesterday, and too many bad carbs. My eating schedule got all screwed up and I binged on an ice cream sundae. I thought I needed food but after I added up all I'd eaten I realized that I did not. Still I went to bed kind of hungry. Those bad carbs will do that to you. Maybe I should have joined Sara's Carb counting challenge. I was really tempted; I just didn't know if I could keep up with the actual carb counting. In the past when I have limited carbs I have done so by eating a certain minimum amount of low carb vegs and limiting servings of high carb foods. Maybe I can do that now. Or at least, not binge on (Chuck's fat free :) ice cream! Naughty Cindy! Sorry I am rambling on so much... I hope all of you have a great day!

Keep working on Chuck! Sounds like he's slowly coming around. Check my journal today - Lee got some blood work back, and he can now see the benefits of his healthy changes! Glad you finally got the exercise buddy out there. Sounds more like you will be inspiring her, than the other way around - but sometimes that's just as motivating. She needs you! I hope you savored your ice cream sundae. Nothing worse than splurging and not enjoying it! You and your magic shoes will walk it all off in no time! :)

My office mate has Lupus and has begun removing wheat from her diet and is noticing an improvement in her joint soreness. Stands to reason the the diet improvements would make you feel less sore to. Could also be the fluid retention from the bad eating that gives you achey joints.

Anything that causes inflammation can bother arthritis. This includes meat, wheat products, dairy and anything from the nightshade family (tomatoes, potatoes). Does not leave a whole lot to eat does it?? You can counteract the inflammatory process with Omega oils though-perhaps fish oil supplements would help Chuck? Just a thought...sorry but the herbalist in me is showing!! LOL I understand wanting to spend more time together yet not wanting to sacrifice your own needs. That is a really wonderful attitude actually! Taking care of you is important. I always have felt if you don't take care of your needs first you just don't have the ability to give to others in the end so keep up the good fight! :)

Thanks, Amryk! I did read the good news about Lee in your journal, conrgrats again! Actually, my exercise buddy ended up wanting to go farther than I did, so I guess we are encouraging each other! Its a nice balance. She just needed some encouragement to get going after sickness and vacation and a change in work schedule.

Thanks for your support, Dawn! Chuck likes to eat tons of pizza, so there's the cheese/tomato combo-- not good. That's actually one of the things I had eaten when I woke up feeling really sore. I'm not sure if I can get him to take fish oil, but its worth a shot, right? Thanks for the tip! Are you an herbalist?

Yup, I am an herbalist...have two certifications in herbal medicine hanging on the wall. ;) Another great supplement for inflammation is Turmeric and Bromelain-I swear by this one. I would not be walking today with out it. I broke my leg severely a few years back and still get swelling in the leg and ankle but this supplement does wonders-cuts the swelling in at least half even on days when I am on my feet the entire time or working at the farm... Some folks do well with MSM too....My hubby found no relief for his arthritis with it but I do have a couple friends who have found it helped with their inflammation...
