Chest - I am a simple guy too - mine cost £20 from Amazon and just checked - it records steps, distance, time, calories (never knew that!!) and links to phone or PC. Really does depend what you want to achieve - set a goal and make sure you reach it or just keep a record so you can see what you are doing day by day etc? Maybe a free app on phone would be a good start so you can play around and see 'fits you Sir...'.

I was supposed to do a charity sleep out two years ago which coincided with my birthday. All planned out, plenty of warm gear £1K promised in sponsorship... 36 hours before the start I got email saying it was cancelled due to Red Weather Warning and all first aid cover had been withdrawn... There I am moaning about it and looked out the window as the snow started to fall. Within 4 hours we had almost a foot of snow and by the next morning we were trapped in the village - oops! I could have been under that. We didnt leave the village for three days. Its obviously the effect I can have on the weather.

Well my charity thing was set for 2nd/3rd March when the Beast from the East hit us. I appeared in one of the TV progs about turning around businesses - I reviewed a cafe and got asked to take part... It was OK apart from the presenter - I wont mention who she was but she came across as pompous and opinionated and a right drama queen, who HAD to be the star of the show. She was VERY rude off camera and all smiles as soon as she knew it was recording. No not Alex Politzi, I would have liked to meet her.....

I’ve got a Fitbit/ just the very very basic one (there’s no screen or anything- it looks just like a bracelet) as it’s just for steps too. It works really well. The Fitbit app can also update your exercise section on the fat secret app.

Good morning Chestnut, did you look at the Google Fit app? It's free, it syncs the app with your phone so making your phone the pedometer so no need to buy one 😊
