Took a couple days off the workouts and calorie tracking. I guess I got discouraged by the numbers on the scale. I also had a bit of pain in my knees so thought it was best to rest.
I don't know why I let it get to me. Over the course of two days I put on and then lost 2 pounds. I've been at my new exercise programme 27 days. I haven't loss a lot of weight but I have lost some inches. I couldn't even do one "burpee" when I started the programme but now I can. Not at the same speed as those sexy fit bodies on the DVD but it's still an improvement. Yes, I modify a lot of the moves. My knees won't let me jump and hop all that fast.
I was expecting so much of myself but I've just learned I gotta do me and just do the best I can do now.
Onwards and upwards. Time to push "play."

Life stresses. Relationship stresses. I'm feeling a bit down. I guess it didn't help the other day when I saw my father (after many months) said I am fat.
"Geez, thanks. I know that. That's why I asked for you to pop by later than we planned earlier. I had to get my exercise done ... after I got my 2 year old fed, dressed and occupied enough with something to give me the 30 minutes I needed to get it done. I am not happy looking this way. I'm not happy that I feel unfit."
I have been doing my exercise programme for 3 weeks now. Only missed one day but made up for it by doubling up. I just about get through it. I modify most of the exercises. But I do it. I am trying. And I must persevere.
I also probably need to not bother calling my Dad and others in my family for the time being. I used to be quite fit and active. Now my body is in need of serious rehab. Knee surgeries, car accidents and lack of movement, as a result, have taken their toll. My left side is weaker than right. My knees scream with every squat and every lunge. I used to have pretty good leg strength, probably from all the rollerblading I used to have the luxury to do. Don't ask me about push (press) ups. I've never really been able to do those properly. I am trying to keep the faith. It just gets so very hard sometimes.

Well, today is a new day. I'm learning all I can about macronutrients and eat regularly so I don’t get over hungry and end up making bad choices. I’m seeing a lot of people talk about ketosis and keto diets. I’ve been on a couple of websites to try and figure this out. I still don’t understand it. I just pray I’ve got the right balance of proteins, fat, fibre and carbs.
I've been keeping a pretty detailed diary with an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of my measurements, how different workouts are going, what my heart rate was and calories burned during that particular exercise.
I was encouraged to get a heart monitor before starting my exercise programme and I'm so glad I did. It's helpful to know exactly what I burned instead of using the FS exercise calorie counts, which are only based on weight and cannot account for "gender, age, muscle mass, height and other genetic and environmental factors.” I keep the heart monitor on most of the time so if I go for a walk, I can count those calories, too, and walk faster if my heart rate doesn’t get into my target zone.
It might seem a bit over the top to keep this spreadsheet but it’s teaching me more than I ever knew about nutrition and exercise. This is the new way of life for me. I need to just keep motivated to keep it up.
