Hot sunny Sunday! Ran 9.0 miles at 11:45 pace. Even though I've run 8.0 miles the last 2 Sundays in a row, this run just seemed to go on forever. I kept arguing with my mind that I felt fine; I needed to finish this run. But then my mind said, "None of your friends run this distance; you're in pretty good shape,no sense killing yourself, save yourself for the race." Yeah, right. More of a mind game than a physical one, even though I think this is the farthest I have ever run (if you don't count the airborne shuffle 45 years ago in the Army). So I finished, and felt I still had something left - not much, but something.

Spent the next hour applying ice packs to knees, calves and thighs - not because I hurt, but because I didn't want to ache the rest of the day. Took a cool shower, and got out about the time the kids came over. Hooked up a Winnie the Pooh sprinkler for my granddaughter, and enjoyed running through the cool water just as much as she did. Of course, she wasn't content to just run through it, she was determined to turn the thing on the rest of the onlookers - and successful at it a couple of times, I might add. A good time was had by all.

Tomorrow is a rest day, and I'll take it. One more long run before the race - 10 miles next Sunday. Race the 19th. Gonna be fun. Won't be icing after the run, and a 40 minute drive home after the awards ceremony, so I am counting on some good aching from my legs then. Have a great evening!

Good work. Darn tootin' not many folks your age run like you do. You rock. Running thru a sprinkler sounds great to me right now! But alas, I gotta get ready for a benefit auction. My friend's mother in law has leukemia...so I'm gonna help by buying pies and cookies to eat I think.

Whoop.... Fantastic. LOL about the sprinkler - I bet you wished you could have sprayed everyone and got away with it :-)

GREAT job finishing the run, DK. You are master of your mind. Your race is going to be fantastic. You and Pam on the same day, is it? With a race of Erika's right before? You have to be the absolutely best grandfather to hook up a Winnie the Pooh sprinkler AND play in it. And Jess, so sorry about your friend's MIL's leukemia. That sucks. Thanks for doing your part.
