Fate whispers to the warrior, "You cannot withstand the storm." The warrior whispers back, "I am the storm." ----- "Far from what I once was, but not what I'm going to be." ----- "Those who celebrate the small victories and simple pleasures wins the game over and over again." ~ don't know who quoted those. Those quotes remind me of who I really am. Since hitting a milestone yesterday, I noticed that I no longer care about some number on the scale. I am more focused on doing what I was sent here to do. "True self knows how to express itself at the right moment. Knows what to say, how to act." ~ me

Let this sink in. LOL. I am able to sense beautiful qualities in people I come upon that other's don't pick up on. I will reveal it to the person. I've had people respond by saying they really needed to hear that. I can go deeper than that. I'm not talking about how they are dressed or appearances. I want them to see that they matter, are appreciated and loved. That they too, bring a smile to my face. Glen, I could go on and on but that's just a snippet. We are all reflections of each other. Hope this makes sense to you all!

Just want to add: Proverbs 16:7 is true. Happened for me more than once :) Also: "The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart." ~ Helen Keller

Odd, isn't it? True knowledge starts with knowing yourself. The educational system just deals in facts and tries to cram everyone into the same box.

NM, that's why my youngest is home schooled. At a meeting last year I was told that my son has been taught life skills at home. Not apart of the school's curriculum. HMMM By practically teaching himself, he has expansive knowledge. He will do better out on his own than most.

I remember when Congress (the opposite of progress?) asked for people to come to talk about home schooling. A 20 year old kid showed up and they grilled him asking if home schooling had worked for him. (I think parents have a lot to do with the success or failure, though if kids can read write and do math by grade 2, which most home schoolers can, they become self-directed and self-motivated. Schools tend to give busy work to the level of the middle or below middle of the bell curve.) They were really giving him a hard time because he wanted them to ask questions at the beginning rather than after his presentation. They of course took this to mean he couldn't make a presentation. Anyway, they really poured it on and when asked what his current level of education was he replied, well, I'm 20 and in just finishing my second year of medical school at the top of the class, so I think it's fairly high. It got pretty quiet on one side of the room.

NM, I was told at a meeting before I removed him from school that a mother of a student in his class wanted to have him removed from school because her son didn't like him. She was an employee at the school. So if this kid always gets his way, wait till he gets to college :) The last thing I witnessed when I picked my son up to remove him, he was in the office. Someone held the door open for me and the receptionist didn't know I was standing there. I heard her verbally abusing him. I calmly said: "Aaron, let's go". She was shocked to see me witnessing her in action. He never went back

Ignorance is everywhere. They'll have a 'safe place' for that other kid in college. Of course when he gets out he won't be able to compete, but there it is. It would be nice though if the world was the way we wanted it to be rather than the way it is. Your tax dollars at work. It is slowly changing.

Who in their right mind would give a 4th grader (at the time, now 10th grader) that much power to control a classroom's dynamics?

How long have you had Aaron at home now? He will do better. I home schooled our son and have no regrets, quite the opposite.

Wonderful idea..."I am the storm"

This started in 4th grade. I removed him in 6th grade. My boss and a lawyer told me to remove him ASAP the day before the big meeting that I made my decision. They wanted to send him to a school for juvenile delinquents. Aaron, has mild CP, very poor vision. He had never back talked or was mean to anyone. Rumors got back to me after he left school that another student would make up lies about him because they would like to see him get in trouble. He went on a field trip and came back, face and clothes all bloody. the aide just smiled, she too was part of the problem. Aaron said he bumped his nose. He was actually hurt by another student. Some teacher's aide for not being truthful. The other student never got in trouble. Sorry for the rant. Pipeline to prison???

@SW + @NM Have you guys checked out John Taylor Gotta? If not, you might find of interest. As a NYC urban PS teacher he won multiple awards for effectiveness, but ultimately became a severe critic of our system of compulsory education. Real eye opener for me. If I could reboot my kids education, I would likely home school.
