So I have been gaining and losing the same two kgs for the last 6 weeks….so need to get focused and get a downward trend happening again.

Got back to my walking in the morning – managing to do 40 minutes – so happy with that.

Got my Nutribullet last night. I am a bit limited with veggies at the moment as I only get my new delivery tomorrow. So last night I tried celery, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, leafy greens and decided to throw in a quarter of a lemon with the skin on (big mistake!!!). The lemon was so strong it tasted like soapy washing up liquid! So added some coconut milk to counteract the acidity and it didn’t taste too bad.

Last night I chopped up celery, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, leafy greens, beetroot, spring onion and coconut flakes and put them in the mixer cup in the fridge and then just blitzed it this morning to bring to work for lunch. Again it wasn’t too bad……I say this because if I was offered this or cake, I know where my decision would be heading to. Strangely, the ingredients are basically salad but the smoothie didn’t taste like I was drinking salad – very refreshing and very organic tasting.

The only down side for me is the plastic cups – I hate drinking out of plastic – so I might decant it into my metal flask tomorrow and rather use that. I’m looking forward to getting veggies tomorrow and trying some different combinations. I used cooked beetroot today…..does anyone know if you can put in raw beetroot…I know it is quite hard and don’t want to damage the blades.

You need just a few pointers when juicing, which I may be able to help with, but I am also still on the learning trail myself. When you look at the recipes you see around, most have unrealistic quantities and if you set it as a meal in front of you, would you eat it all. Apples are cheap and can be used in just about everything you care to blend, along with handfulls of spinach and other greens, just keep the quantities down to what you would have on a plate in front of you. Bananas tend to make things sweater and I tend to use just half of one. Beetroot should be fresh not cooked, as the only reason you really need to cook beetroot is because, raw it is as tough as old boot leather, plus you get more nutritional benefit from raw. Spinach should be slightly cooked or microwaved for a short time. Spinach is one of those plants that does not release all its nutrients unless heated, particularly the valuable iron. Walnuts, unless you are allergic, are a good source of Omega 3, and Brazil nuts are good for you too. Nuts are high in calories so you only need a few, but their benefits far outweigh their calorie count. Brazil nuts lower LDL and increase HDL are high in mono-unsaturated fatty acid and high in vitamins. Nuts are good for you and you only need a few. Blended, particularly in the nutribullet they are pulverised. If you use strong tasting fruit, just use less, as with lemons, a single thin slice is often enough.

Oh yes and try to use water rather than almond, soya or other types of milk. You can make your own nut milk with your bullet, designed to your own taste.

Thank you Mindful_Body for all the ideas. I have ordered some seeds and nuts to use as a boost. I learnt the hard way with the lemon! I am avoiding using fruit in it at the moment as I am back to calorie counting and it is very difficult to OD on veggies!

I don't know why you couldn't do raw beets. I do them with carrots when juicing. They make quite the mess though. And definitely, the nutribullet it fine for nut butter and nut milks.

You can also make some base ingredients up to freeze and use later. Fresh greens sold in supermarkets are usually sold in quantities that you will never use up before they go off, as are other fruit and veg, although root veg do tend to last longer. Base ingredients like the greens can be liquidised and put into ice cube trays.
