notelaine's Journal, 30 Jun 15

Did a short run yesterday for the first time in a long time. I have always had this goal of becoming a runner, but give up before I even make a dent in my goals. I've tried following those couch to 5k programs (I think I've attempted three different programs so far) and always end up quitting after nearly injuring myself, or missing too many days that I can't get back on track.

So, new method. Run/walk for 20 minutes, three times a week. Figure as long as I'm consistent, I'll get better eventually. And yesterday, without the grueling pace of a training plan, I actually enjoyed myself. Baby steps, right?

When I run, I run extremely slow, or I did when I first started. It's a good way to get your posture and gate ligned up properly and to ease your respitory and cardiovascular systems into the roitine. Remember to run on your toes. I am not interested in being a pro runner, I just like the 'easy' calorie burn. I run 4.8 k a day, or 3 miles.

Run/walk is the best way to start. Also there's nothing wrong with running slow. The most important part is to enjoy it.

I'm the same way. I do really want to become a runner, but I absolutely hate running. I always get bored running and have such a hard time following any sort of plan.

I listen to music when I run, it helps. Often, if I get to thinking about something, I come back to the now and realize I've gone almost a mile. You learn how to distract your mind.
