JustBananas's Journal, 10 Dec 22

Dropped 1.5 lbs. this week, which is good considering that my exercise took a hit. Work has everyone racing to meet deadlines ahead of holiday vacations, and normally I do cardio during my lunchbreaks. Faced with the decision of fitting it in or getting enough rest, I chose sleep. Next week will be no different in terms of longer hours at the office, but I should have plenty of time to bang out exercise the final 2 weeks of December.

Buying groceries this weekend and making Channa Masala, Caponata, and Ratatouille. Food prep is everything. I ate a lot of salads this week and am now craving warm comfort meals.

Tracking my calorie intake and it is absolutely obnoxious when cooking from scratch. I can tell though that I rarely even hit 1250 kcals a day, so I'll stop recording it soon.

@APhoebe: I use Fabio Viviani's version, which is more sweet & sour: eggplant, tomatoes, onions, garlic, celery & carrot, capers & olives, with red wine vinegar and a pinch of brown sugar. Eating it for lunch today 😋.

@Wisteria: I find smoking to be dirty and gross, and having someone obese that also smokes is just a double-whammy of bad decisions made daily. I cannot handle a nurse giving me advice when they don't walk their own talk.

@JustBananas Yes, that is why I struggle with my husband and his bad habits. He said he has quit them again. :fingers crossed: but I see it is a character flaw, dirty and a sign of a lack of education. I have to tread lightly in voicing that so bluntly.

You can yell it on my journal, anytime!

Wisteria— it is not a matter of lack of education as noted by the numbers of people from all walks of life who smoke. It is an addiction like any other. No different than obesity/food addiction, alcohol or drug addiction., sex addiction, gambling. An addiction.

Unhealthy hy dad.— back in the day when we fought to be able to do 12 hour days, we were YOUNG, BUT ITS HARDER TO DO AS YOU GET OLDER AND 12 often turns into 16. You’re lucky to be able to actually sit down for a meal that you bring from home let alone enjoy a 30 minute lunch away from the unit in the cafeteria.. I could never have made it to the gym to workout but once my girls were out of the house I made it to swim.

I use happyforks.com to calculate recipes - just type in the ingredients or copy and past from a recipe and it calculates the macros etc.

@Kenna and @Wisteria: According to the following Gallup poll (Oct. 2021), there most definitely IS an education gap for that particular addiction: https://news.gallup.com/opinion/polling-matters/356498/smoking-relationship-education-disentangled.aspx#:~:text=Overall%2C%2016%25%20of%20the%20U.S.,least%20not%20in%20recent%20decades.

Wisteria— so is overeating and obesity a “moral” issue as far as you are concerned?
13 Dec 22 by member: Kenna Morton
@Kenna: Wisteria specifically said smoking was a moral issue to her, not overeating. Please carry on your discussion through PM's to each other, rather than getting huffy on my thread. Thank you.

I was 13 and tried one cigarette from my mom's pack. It's a good thing she had nasty Kool menthol. Two puffs and I was done. Never went near one again.

@JustBananas I know right? Someone is touchy. I didn't bring up eating issues. Anyone who has witnessed my posts since March knows tobacco is a HUGE issue for me. But at least you understand my plight. I'm praying my husband is truthful about putting the habits down.

@Wisteria: Sugar, alcohol, and smokes will always stir up addicts and they will rise up to defend their honor. Kenna is a retired nurse, a smoker, and has dealt with diabetes and kidney disease, all of which leak out in her posts & comments if one pays attention. Ever notice that when an addict is denied 1 vice, they lean heavily on others? I've never met anyone who gave up smoking who didn't gorge themselves on sugar and sugar substitutes as the replacement vice.

@Justbananas I agree. I have noticed that about people too.
