DairyKing's Journal, 08 Apr 14

Good Morning, FS Warriors! It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. First, the worst: I forgot to set my alarm. The best: I woke up at 3:57 AM anyway, Yay! I still didn't want to get out of bed, but I knew, without the snooze alarm to fall back on, if I went back to sleep, I'd be dead meat. So, I got up. My new Nike+ compatible HR Monitor strap arrived yesterday, and I was kind of excited about trying it out this morning - not excited enough to bounce out of bed, but enough to get up, period. Finished off Stage 9 of the program. You know what that means, right? No more rest periods; 30 minute continuous runs. Anyway, turns out this new Nike+ compatible WearLink strap, with snap-on module and replaceable battery, doesn't do as good a job at communicating with the NordiTrack treadmill as the older Polar HR monitor strap did. It was hit or miss the whole workout, and I was thinking about, and dreading, the idea of returning the strap. But, I thought, I bought it for the Nike+ SportBand, so let's just see how will it communicated with it. The band only told me that my average HR was 127 BPM. Now, if that all it did, I was taking it back. I plugged it into the computer and allowed it to upload my workout to Nike. Turns out it does map my HR very well across the entire workout. I've included a couple pics of what the graphs look like. I like it. Think I'll keep it.

HR Beats Per Minute

Another not-so-great evening at the dinner plate - not that it wasn't enjoyable - just I didn't do all that well at restraining myself again. We had company, who just so happened to have put in a request for chicken and dumplings. DW makes some mean chicken and dumplings. Two helping later, and a piece of the spice cake with cream cheese frosting that she just had to experiment with, and well, you know the rest of the story. It wasn't a total killer; still showed a net deficit for the day, but it was close. It's not going to make the scale jump in either direction this week. Anyway, no more company that I know of for the week, so hopefully, I will be a little more productive. Hoping all my FS Friends have a wonderful day. toodles!

Good job getting up on your own! I have not had chicken and dumplings in years. I need some of that! Well I don't but it sounds delicious.

Great graphs DK... Def worth keeping. There's so much stuff on the market, all of it compatible/not compatible for different things - gets confusing, annoying and expensive. Your one looks good to me :-)

Love chicken and dumplings...have you tried beef and dumplings???...Yum

Bren, DW makes a really good plate of beef and flat noodles, never tried it with dumplings but sounds good. Do you boil the beef in a pot just like you do with the chicken, and drop the dumplings in?

Sk1nny, I like that Nike SportBand more and more, obviously since they decided to discontinue it. :) Nike is probably getting pressure from Apple to push their applications toward their Iphone and Ipods. If I had to choose a new "toy" it would be the Garmin GPS watch with the shoe sensor, for running on treadmills and using the satellites outside. Their "GarminConnect" website is even more elaborate than Nike's.

Hey Buddy - thank you for stopping by to comment on my journal. Yeah, ATF is All Things Food and BCF is Business Colleague Friend - a relationship that is precarious at best; maintained for business, somewhat friendly but always cautious because sometimes I wanna say 'as long as you're standing back there talking behind my back, wanna pull the knife out that you stick there now and then...?' The friendly part was telling her I would take the 'other' C-word over chubby .. so yeah.. that was a good call :-) LOL ~ I crack myself up.

Another thing I've figured out about restaurant eating for recording I pick whatever the Cheesecake Factory offers in something similar ~ I know that ought to be about as high in calorie and RDI damaging as it's gonna get.

You crack me up too, Bella! They always say, "Keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer." Looks like you're staying pretty busy, and probably the best thing you can do these days. Hang in there, Kid; you've got too much talent to go unnoticed for very long.

Thanks DK - btw - referring to your 'he was hitting on you' defense last Fri - a male colleague at the trade show commented to me 'You get younger looking every time I see you' .... was that 'hitting' and if it was... what clever thing could I have said besides what I (did) - which was, "Tha tha that tha thank you."

Sounds like a good enough comeback to me. If I was on the prowl, I would have viewed that as an opening. At least you didn't say, "Up yours!" :D which BTW has happened in my more aggressive and flirtatious days. Come to think of it, back then, I might have even considered that an opening. Oh well, once guys realize you're unattached, the comments will probably be flowing more regularly. While not necessarily "hitting on you," they may be testing the waters. Cold, lukewarm, or ouch! Any way you look at it, the ball is in your court then.
