I'm lifting and walking a lot, but I'm only running up to two days a week lately. I am surprised that keeping cardio conditioning is going OK even with running being so infrequent. I remember when I first managed 3 miles in 30 minutes and was so excited, and now it isn't nearly as hard! Slow progress! My favorite purple roses are back in full bloom!

When I used to run I could never do a 10 minute mile! I would run 4 miles almost every day and would write down my time. It never varied more than a few seconds. I think I ran a mile in 10 1/2 minutes. I remember when you used to post about your long walks and I thought there was no way I could walk as fast as you do. Beautiful flowers. My yard is nothing but dust and leaves with a small area of lawn. But no flowers at all right now. Except for a few oleanders. I had them cut down last year but they grew back.

Beautiful as always Melissa! I think that the reason why I can jog or bike the distance that I do is psychological. I have done it once therefore I can always do it. My speed is never the fastest at the beginning of a long pause but I can still do it. If we look at the definition of cardio it says that it is any exercise that raises your heart rate. Some people raise their heart rate while doing weights, others raise it walking, they both can be cardio. I think that moving is very important and there is no need to be on a very low calorie diet when you move.

Thank you, rcguenth! alyseclark, that is great! It was a friend here who spoke of his goal being 3 in 30, and I thought I should try. It took months! 😁 Moving forward is the real goal! ❤️ Thank you, newnameMM! We are all learning, and it sure has helped to have folks here to give us advice! khrissy85, Bill, WFN, thanks so much for enjoying my flowers with me!!!

Fritzy, I really think that the calories burned and conditioning is so close to the same with walking or running a bit slower or faster. I look forward to hearing about you getting back to walking when it isn't so blazing hot down there! You have other incredibly beautiful things to fill your yard!!!! Your deer and birds and turkeys (OK they are not so beautiful to me) 😁 and squirrels! You have a different kind of beauty!

Thanks so much, Ireland! I really appreciate your kind comments! I think you are so right about the physical component being almost less than the psychological when it comes to setting goals which challenge us. Once I managed the higher speed, I'm never happy with less!😁 And, I also totally agree that cardio happens at other times for us. I know I am breathing pretty hard and the old heart is pumping when I'm lifting, but because it isn't sustained in the same way I never think of it. The same is true for walking since I don't feel challenged in the same way! But just moving makes such a big difference!!!

Hahaha, I was seriously about to say, Petra, that I can only really seem to grow roses. The little dogwood tree I was trying to clone under Chris's tutelage is not going well for me. While his has new growth, mine shows every evidence of death! 😡 So very sad... But, thank you! I do love my roses so much. They grow half a foot a week it seems right now! ❤️
