Well, after doing what feels like quite a lot of damage to my knee on Saturday I spent Sunday mostly in bed. I've found my old walking stick, and have spent this week moving very slowly and carefully around. Any weight on the bad leg is incredibly painful, and my balance - let's just not go there. I suspect I've done quite a bit more damage to the already damaged ligaments, and the pain suggests I've bruised the bones in my knee again. It will pass eventually, and each day has been an improvement on the last but mobility remains quite challenging. And stairs, just don't get me started on the subject of stairs....

This essentially nukes from orbit my 10,000 steps a day minimum exercise, building up to something more. So my daily calorie needs have dropped by at least 5-600 per day, which immediately makes dieting tougher. This week the plan has been breakfast as normal, stock up on lots of veggies at lunch with larger than usual portions and skip dinner as I'm then not really that hungry. This has worked so far, but is not how I want to do things longer term. The sooner I get to a point where I do not need the walking stick again the better.

The whole mobility thing is so frustrating. It started 10 years ago when I slipped down the stairs and damaged my knee. Since then I've had surgery to try and fix things and had to relearn to walk twice over, but the whole joint remains unstable and prone to give way. All it takes is one misstep, being jostled in a crowd, or a minor trip and I am on the floor screaming with severe pain trying to work out if I can still walk or not. I am not feeling sorry for myself - I refuse to do that, just incredibly frustrated with it all.

keep your chin up. mg son has bad knees and you are right, it is not good for weight loss. the only thing you could do is to take up swimming while your knee heals. good luck in your recuperation.

Thanks. Swimming is something I really enjoy, but usually only get to do one or two weeks a year while I'm on holiday. There is frequently talk of building a pool locally, but so far there's no real sign of one being built.
