Day 2 of a planned 5 day fast
I was able to keep my carbs below <5 by drinking only water and homemade beef bone broth yesterday. I felt great, but I think that is because I also had plenty of Hi-Lyte Electrolyte Concentrate. This also causes water retention in me so I am glad that I am literally not stepping on a scale until Wednesday.
I also started off this fast by going for a 5 mile run first thing Monday morning. This will be part of my future protocol. I don't know what exercise does physically for a fast but I do know what it does mentally. For me, it eliminates 'mental hunger'.
Late last night, for the first time ever, I felt numbness in my lower legs (I'm blaming high doses of Hi-Lyte). Following advice from this site I took magnesium tablets. That seemed to help a lot and I slept fine.
This morning I decided to mix things up by putting some "Quest Vanilla Milkshake Protein Powder" (3 carbs) into my morning coffee. Good god I am stuffed! If it later causes me to feel hungry I will stop taking it while 'fasting'. High protein will still spike my blood sugar and falling blood sugar is what causes 'real hunger' in me.
