Short version.....yyyyeeessssss!!

Long version. 2 weeks since my R and R. First week back I was playing at it. Yes, I cut out the big hitters calorie-wise but was probably at maintenance.

2nd week Got real. Recorded. Was super strict with intake. Weight loss equals 600g per week, equivalent to pre-menopause losses, as opposed to the 200g a week I have been struggling with.

Conclusion. I now know my post-menopause calorie allowances. A lot lower than I ever imagined as a tall, active, and well-muscled woman. I am glad I have finally got my body to do as it is told again after 18 months of trial and error but, not so glad about how hard maintenance will be! But, maintenance is always hard, I suppose.

Pre-menopause allowances: 2000 maintenance/1500 weight loss. Post-menopause allowances: 1750 maintenance/1250 weight loss (ouch!)

Hmm, not what I want to hear Anne, but I suspect you are right. I gained on average 1950 and lost a tiny amount on average 1600, still identifying my maintenance figure, but probably similar to yours 🤔

It's been a real struggle, Marge. And a lot of denial. I suppose, I am probably leaner than the average 55 woman, not a lot of soft edges and thats how I like it. So, depending your goals, you may be able to go higher?

I can definitely live with a few soft edges Anne. 🙂I think my main objectives are to stay a healthy weight and to keep feeling strong 💪

Excellent on reaching goal again, Anne! Not so excellent hearing about that lower maintenance calories - ouch indeed! But, I'm sure you will find a way to make it work - or somehow increase it slightly over time? I can only hope the latter. Good on you for tracking accurately to work the numbers. I'm hoping to get back to it properly and do the same in August. Have a lovely weekend! xxx

Thanks, Nikina. It's been a proper soap opera but I made it. I am hoping that if I make a decent go at maintenance (hopefully easier now that menopause is achieved 😀 and lockdown finished) I won't have to do the hard slog back too often. But as you know, we are always works in progress 😇👍

You can be strong and not at target weight, Marge , and you can be healthy and not at target. So a little bit of slack (excuse the expression)is nothing to worry about 😀😀😀

Ouch indeed. I’ve yet to enter menopause. This is concerning as some days I can eat the roof off. Been in maintenance for a while. I don’t find it hard at all. So far… 😜🐷

Hiya, Wifey. Glad you are feeling better! I have always struggled with maintenance. I tend to be work hard, play which can give a seesaw effect. Menopause was a real eye opener for me. Kind of like puberty in reverse!!

Thank you Anne. You were so right that good health and eating helped me bounce back quicker. Though I have no taste or smell yet, and my sinus is blocked, and I have a nagging cough, I’m good!! Been doing workouts, just shorter. I don’t want to think how I would’ve coped if I was unhealthy and out of shape. It’s definitely a reminder to stay the course, eat well and move!!! ❤️❤️

Well done Anne, fantastic loss, and even better that you’re super happy with it , because it’s easy for us to be disappointed for all the effort we put in, we expect a lot out , very pleased for you.

Thanks, Jamie. My body seems to have responded much better to the short sharp shock tactic rather than the long draw out trudge I was in. No loss of performance either. I am happy to have another tool in my toolbox of weight management. Thanks for your support. 😀

Yay!!! So happy for you and no one deserves it more. Do you cut out all treats when doing 1250? I love reading about what you do and what works for you. I hope you’ll share more xx. Feeling slightly under pressure for my Monday weigh in 😅🤣

Morning, Suma. I have 1 tunnocks tea cake, or a milky way or a finger of fudge (all about 100 cals) a day. But no other snacks. I fast from 1800 until 1130. I can only do such low calories for a short time as I have to fit it into weeks when I am not socialising. I take advantage of quiet times to focus on diet. Exercise remains constant throughout with the usual adjustments to suit. Thanks for taking an interest, Suma. It helps me too.

I recently bought some tunnocks wafers. I was in uddingston and it felt wrong not to. 1800 is quite early. I try to finish eating by 1930 but I do shorter fasts. My hair is still falling like crazy so don’t want to exacerbate it. Teff helped for a bit as did many things, but once I stop using them, my hair starts falling out again…sigh!

The wafers are divine but more calories than the tea cakes and easier to eat the whole packet (yes, I can do stuff like that when the devil is in me!!) The only time I suffer from hair loss is when I am stressed. It is quite alarming I must say. But once I get on top of the stress it does settle down again. I don't always manage to stick to the 1800 timeframe, Suma. But as long as I hit 16/8 I am happy enough.
