Life’s full of little ups and downs. I had just got back on my LCHF diet and realised a 1 Kg loss when my Mum-in-law was taken ill whisked to hospital and subjected to a rather serious op. A brief chat with Lulu Lowcarb ensued and there was nothing else for it other than to despatch Lulu Lowcarb off to look after her Mum for at least the next two weeks, maybe more.

So Lulu went into hyper drive; packing and cooking yours truly enough carefully measured meals to keep me afloat for the foreseeable future. I can only see about a week ahead and that’s about as long as my refrigerated ready meal stash will last. Not to worry I can burn all sorts of food, much better than most of the TV chefs.

Sunday came and I chauffeured little Ms Low Carb off to her Mum’s. Returning home I fed the moggies and raided my store of carefully prepped meals. Oh my one whole bottle of wine to myself. I managed to control myself and avoid glugging the lot and thoroughly enjoyed the roast.

Fully sated I awoke some hours later. I don’t know how long I slept, but I was feeling rather hot. I had reclined on the sofa telly on, central heating on and lounge fire blazing away plus the sort of rosy glow that only occurs after a good feed accompanied by a generous helping of alcohol. The moggies had decided to thank me for filling their tummies by taking their carefully selected positions on top of me. Yup a kitty blanket, three of them had fallen asleep on me. No wonder I was so hot.

Monday was uneventful; I almost got lunch right cooking the thickest omelette I have ever eaten. Is there such a thing as a "Door Step Omelette?" My RDI was still good. I thought this is a breeze.

Tuesday, this lunch time got a little out of control I decided on a brunch; sausages, eggs, bacon and plum tomatoes all washed down with a bullet proof coffee. Opps what’s that loud beeping sound? I had set the smoke alarm off. I got my multi-tasking wrong. I turned the cookers extractor fan to maximum and fanned the down stairs smoke alarm. Thankfully it stopped screeching.

I got a dirty look from the moggies as if to say. You’re not burning our scraps are you? I was simultaneously stirring the tomatoes, slurping my coffee turning the bacon and topping up the moggies dry food bowl when the smoke alarm when off again. Smoke was issuing from the covered frying pan. Lifting the lid I was just in time to see the fat I was cooking my sausages in was on fire. Naturally I removed them from the heat and managed to turn off the correct gas burner. A carefully placed tea towel extinguished my burnt offerings.

Drama over and everything piping hot some items hotter than others, I nibbled one of the blackened sausages. Mmmm that tasted good. I think I have just discovered a tasty way to fast cook sausages. Next time I must remember, fan on gas off! My cremated sausages didn’t go to waste; you know I think they tasted better than normally cooked sausages. A bit like the last time I was left in charge of the garden bar-b-q.

Oh well I will do better tomorrow. My lesson today was how to swear better than Gordon Ramsay.

I make doorstep omelettes but had no idea what they were called until now! Cook on hob then under the grill and they puff up like a souffle. Hope kitty cats were happy with their BBQ. Lovely post.
