Happy*Snappy's Journal, 02 Nov 17

Why is it that I seem to be struggling with the same 6 pounds every time I turn around? I got passed the last one at 300 and here I am at 290 struggling for weeks again! I keep going from 287 to 293 - back and forth, back and forth.

I have been very proud of myself for not just saying - to heck with it and going on a huge Bender - I've stayed with the plan for the most part. My cheats and poor choices have been keto "legal" - just maybe too much. Ok, honestly .... way too much.

I love cooking for my family and have been experimenting with different treats - like Almond Joy cookies, pecan tarts ( which are AWESOME btw - everyone gobbled those up - including me), fudge, bread substitute etc. Getting ready for the holidays at my house has always included RIDICULOUS amounts of treats. If you came to my house, you weren't leaving without a gift box full of goodies! This included the neighbors, the trash guys, the delivery people, the doctor office staff, my office, your office - ok - so most of those people I have to seek out but it's something I love doing.

And no, I have no misunderstandings or denial of how I got to be a 336# type 2 diabetic! My downfall is pasta, potatoes and bread - the sweets have never been my weak spot....

So I've come to the conclusion I have to go back to the basics.

you're doing great! just take into consideration the amounts of salt that you're consuming, maybe it's a factor in why you're staying up there. also be patient and stay your course! whether it's a week or week an a half, those pounds will come off. just stay your course! you can do it!

What does "back to basics" entail, specifically? --- I'm seeing some things in your food diary that would trip me up pretty hard, and which my partner (who reversed a t2d diagnosis through nutrition alone) does not include. But it sounds like you already know pretty well what works for you, so I don't want to jump in with my own understanding of what I've seen work. ---

It is so frustrating to be stuck! I hear you. I also have the same pitfalls as you so I double hear you. lol I bet that here's nothing that I can tell you that you haven't told yourself. When you have so much to lose it's frustrating because it feels like forever to get to a target weight without having these horrible stalls or plateaus. You know what you need to do just keep listening to your positive voice.

First of all you have lost already 21 kg (46lbs) and that`s great achievement so you should be proud of yourself. Looking at your diary I think you are doing really well so there shouldn`t be any fault of your food intake. Or, maybe you are trying bits and bobs of food you prepare for others? Being stuck is annoying but just stick to your diet and I hope you will get back on track. Good Luck!

Stay encouraged. You’ve identified why your fluctuating and your body is going to fight for those familiar foods that make you smile. I have a few but I know they are my trigger foods so i try to stay away from them. I have found that finding a healthier alternative has help me. We are all striving to be healthier and yes we may have a set back but you will prevail. So hang in there because your stronger than you think. Good luck on your journey.

Count calories, count calories, count calories. The only way to lose weight is to be calorie negative. You have to learn to live on 500 less calories per day than what any online calorie requirement calculator tells you. I struggled for years until I understood that eating healthy and eating less is not the same thing.

I echo what @Meli1028 said about how difficult it is to stay on a plan - holidays approacheth! And, I think @Chefpalacious hit on something we don't account for all-too-often on Atkins/Keto/LCHF... salt; so, I would recommend checking labels a tad more carefully. We are in here with you on this journey... never forget that, and be encouraged!

Revving up the heart and doing your physical framing, sucking in the abdominal scoop to sit and stand straighter while doing your movements, being mindful of it, helps to take you to the next level. If after two weeks, there is no difference, start moving more. My friend began squeezing lemon on her regular dishes and she swears it helped. <shrugging shoulders> Time for a physical? Keep us posted Happy*Snappy.

Thanks everyone - it's been a struggle .... of course I weighed this morning and 286. 😕... silly scale, anyway! Meli - I think I'm going to have to join you with the no baking thing until the day before the holiday. 😞. I don't think that will kill anyone around here .... at least not literally. I'm thinking the almond flour and art sweets are just too much for my system right now. Chef & 184- Agreed my sodium counts get Crazy high some days. Less swelling though - go figure. My blood pressure and blood sugars have been awesome though. I've worked too hard to mess that up so Keto on! T8u9 - back to basics- <12-15 NC

<12-15gr NC /day, no art sweet, <3 oz cheese & 1.5 oz HWC/day, a gallon of water a day, and no processed meats - if I don't make it then I don't eat it.

Apache - I'm running 12-1300 Cal a day so that's about a 700 cal deficit a day. Thanks 184 - sodium can be tricky sometimes - I know I'm not alone - besides here my tummy has started grumbling at me in the mornings! That's new.

Someone on YouTube has helped me greatly. His name is Dr. Eric Berg. He is a big believer in low carb/ high fat as well as intermittent fasting. (He also has a lot of info on how to do this diet with diabetes). Whenever I start researching health, I need to saturate my belief system of why this will help me. I do this until I really believe it which helps me with my motivation and stick-to-itness. I love intermittent fasting, but when I was eating carbs- I never felt full and was always hungry. Since going LCHF, the fat has really curbed my need for sweets and need to feel over full. When I do want something sweet, I whip up some cream with cocoa powder and swerve for a creamy treat that isn't too sweet and it hits the spot and is filling because of the fat content. I have been at this diet for 3 full months and have only lost 13 pounds. It seems though that insulin resistance has made weight loss difficult, but I believe that if I keep at it, then my body will heal itself enough to start letting the fat out of the cell. Keep up the good work! Many blessings to you!

Anybody remember the scene from UP where that little boy is face down - being drug across the ground because he's tied to the house? That seems to be my metabolism right now. I keep plodding along with this WOE and 15-20 ft back is my metabolism whining 'I don't want to, you can't make me, I'm tired!'. I start swimming tomorrow - let's see how he likes them thar apples!! I'm all for getting even with the scale for being stubborn....I will Outlast him..... I've come entirely too far and have accomplished too much to give in over those digital numbers. Today is Friday - I'm sitting down to plan out the next two weeks. Then a day off for Thanksgiving - and I have an incredible about of things and people in my life to be thankful for

MissyGrizzy you are probably right about the body having to heal itself. I'm noticing quite a change in my body since I got down from 193 to 184. For a week now I haven't had to rely on Motrin daily because I've been pain free in my joints and even my feet.
