Paleo Judy's Journal, 27 Feb 17

Despite my worries about the Festive Mix yesterday, I seem to have stayed at about the same weight. Could only find Trail Mix as an equivalent, but looks like there's a ridiculously high amount of calories. Luckily it was offset by skipping breakfast and lunch.

It's fun experimenting with different foods, isn't it? Also interesting that a while ago, we would have just eaten it and not thought about it. Now we have to weigh up whether it would a good thing to eat in the future, and how often, lol 😀

I suppose there are different types of trail mix, some better than others, but I couldn't believe that 200g of it is listed on FatSecret as 924 calories. The labelling on the packet said that nutritional information was "not applicable". I'm not surprised they don't want anyone to know if it is that bad. My son had some tiny dried pineapple chunks at the same time and we realised afterwards that the carbohydrates for these were listed on the packet as 86g of carbohydrates per 100g, presumably virtually all sugar. I think nuts are fine in small amounts and there are some studies which show that almonds are beneficial for diabetes and heart disease. It's the ones with loads of coconut and dried fruit which are not as healthy as they look. Trouble is I gave ex-hubby a packet of the Festive Mix and he's due to have a heart bi-pass operation in March. He's told me that if he eats any, he'll keep it to small amounts.

Green is good. I eat loads of nuts most every day. Dried fruit on the other hand, is a no no.
