Paleo Judy's Journal, 17 Jan 17

Sometimes I get GP's asking me: "When was the last time you had a migraine?", so I thought I'd record that I had a really bad one today. It had started when I woke up this morning and soon became so bad I had to go back to bed again (rating of 5 on scale of 1-5). Began improving by 2.00 pm (down to level 3) and has now almost gone at 3.40 pm. This is the first migraine I have had since I started FatSecret, which shows you can manage them through watching the foods you eat. I had been for a meal with a friend yesterday and had the Chicken Chasseur, so I thought it might have been that, but asked them and the ingredients were fine. I therefore think it was a naughty tiny complementary biscuit which was put on my plate when I had hot chocolate at Marks and Spencer's recently. Yes - I know none of this was on my diet - but the biscuit was winking at me! Delayed reaction, which is characteristic of wheat, so I'm putting it down to wheat as the trigger.

But if you put it down to wheat what about when you eat bread? or Perhaps it was the Chocolate if it was Dark Chocolate.

I can never resist the biscuits you get when you order a coffee. Glad you are feeling better.

Yes - they're really hard to resist Jocko. I wish they would ask you if you want them, rather than just putting them on, because plenty of people are Coeliac or else have gluten sensitivity. Susan - I don't normally eat any grains except for oats and wild rice, so I haven't had any kind of bread for about 4 years. I used to be on quite a strict Paleo Diet, but now follow my own Paleo-Mediterranean approach. Biscuit was a bit of a glitch, but it shows that the food intolerances are still "alive and kicking". The migraine connection with different foods was worked out through an elimination diet organised by a consultant in the Allergy Department of Airedale Hospital. My youngest son and I are basically quite hunter-gatherer, because we have health problems triggered by grains and by lactose in milk. In my case, the main problems are migraine, fibromyalgia and IBS. It's all well managed through steering clear of the grains which upset me and having lactose-free or low-lactose dairy products. In my son's case, grains and milk were slowing his thinking, causing learning difficulties, and he also had facial tics. It all calmed down when he went on a similar diet to me. One of the things which interests me is that my family has early-onset Alzheimer's, so I have wondered if there is any connection. Some researchers have found that Alzheimer's responds well to a low-grain, low-glycaemic diet.

Quit likely Poppycorn - a little Christmas tree biscuit designed to trap me (:
