Eek! My scale gave me a beady-eyed look and read 144-3/8 lbs today. I can't be training it right. Interestingly, while I have been relaxing with my diet my somnolence has improved and more importantly the insomnia which follows it. Don't know why yet, but I suspect it is the hot chocolate I have been having in the evening. Milk contains tryptophan, so maybe the idea of having a hot milky drink at night to regulate your sleep does have some validity. It's probably not a good idea for me to carry on with the big cupfuls I've been having lately, because it puts the weight on, but maybe just a small cup of hot milk or hot chocolate at nighttime might be helpful for me.

It sounds like you're onto something! It's all an experiment really, isn't it? Try something, record, tweak, try again, record again, compare.

Hi Phooks - Yes it is a matter of experimenting. For a long time now I've known that if I get insomnia then it can be helped by eating porridge, so many of my breakfast entries are really for the middle of the night. The porridge seems to help because of the slow-release carbs. Hopefully the tryptophan idea will help to get me off to sleep properly in the first place. I've made a list of anti-diabetic strategies which might help, so I'll have to try various things out and see how it goes.

Turkey also has a lot of this sleep-inducing tryptophan
