I just got back from the doctor's office. Not good. My blood pressure is in the 150's. He and his nurse both asked if I smoke. I don't as my mom and her mom both died of the same cancer in the same lung, and both smoked until the literal day they died. I have Hashimoto'd Thyroiditis and was diagnosed with it back when I was 13. I didn't take care of it until recently because I didn't care because I didn't know anything about it. I get a terrible pain in the joint of my big toe and horrible brain fog. People think I'm dumber than dirt because I can't think straight. Oh, thyroid. Yay... not. I gained all the weight back too. Back to square one. It's disappointing, but I'm not giving up. Tomorrow's a new day and I have some ideas about how to make things better. I need to talk to my boyfriend and see what he has to say about my ideas because a couple of them are pretty big changes.

It's good that you are getting medical care for your Hashimoto and also good that you are seeking support from your boyfriend. It's easier to face life changes with support from those closest to you. Best wishes for you health journey.

I have thyroid deficiency and testosterone deficiency. I only just found out that testosterone is so essential for women (and men, obviously) for metabolism, better mental alertness, muscle strength and muscle pain. I was vague, overweight (still am), apathetic, and had dreadful shoulder pain. I had a testosterone replacement around a month ago and I am starting to feel the difference. Eating more protein helps too. Isn't it all so friggin hard! I totally sympathise. Hang in there.

Aussie Elise - I have thyroid deficiency as well, and my ears perked up when you said dreadful shoulder pain. We've just recently traced my shoulder pain to digestive issues and my Doctor told me I'm lactose intolerant. Have you checked into the possibility of having a dairy sensitivity? You've definitely got me thinking about testosterone.....I imagine there is a blood test you take to find this out?

Thanks writergal. You could be onto something there. I spoke to a herbalist recently who suggested that a lot of issues arise from the gut. She had thyroid deficiency too, and had learned that the gut and our digestion affects energy production, thyroid and even mood. So that is interesting. Here in Australia, the testosterone test is requested by a GP doctor, a blood sample is taken and then the labs ("Clinpath") run the tests and send them to your doctor. My results were startling! I had so little testosterone that the result couldn't be read by the lab! Testosterone is a funny thing, women have a certain amount at the age of around 25 years and this usually reduces naturally by half by the age of around 50 years. I am 48 now and have nothing. So it is like I am a very, very old woman! I felt like an old woman. Tired, sore, overweight, exhausted and depressed. And you get "brain fog" with inadequate testosterone. Previous doctors had never considered the testosterone thing until I saw a new doctor who suggested testing for it. So there you go. Interesting.
