Snowwhite100's Journal, 24 Oct 23

I gained 17 lbs after our daughter died, from 118 up to 135, which was about 3 sizes on me from a tight 6 to a 12. Having lost almost 4" in height, and an old age figure I don't carry it well. But I had to give up most wine, desserts, and bread products to lose. Even so, that's very slow for most people. But age and loss of exercise from painful sciatica affected me a lot. The sciatica is so much better so I gently jog on a "Rebounder" which is a little mini-trampoline. I did 50 minutes today for the first time in a couple of years. It's averaged about 30 minutes for nearly 2 months. Saturday will be my 82nd Birthday and I won't reach my goal but it doesn't matter. I'm just glad I'm losing. Seven lbs more to go in this last yo-yo round of up and down. I would like to imagine that when I lose all I want to, I could stay down, but I never have. Once upon a time about 20 years ago, I gave up desserts for 6 years. Now I am averaging wine once a month, and a dessert every 2 weeks so I can lose. That's my compromise for now. Bread products are tough: I'm averaging having something in that category once every 4 days.

Snowhite, it is true, as we age the weight comes off more slowly. I also find this to be true. Just keep moving forward and when your mind and body are in sync you’ll lose that weight. By that I mean that you probably won’t lose a substantial amount of weight by eating desserts and drinking wine. On the other hand, given your circumstances, I understand and support you 100%! It’s great too that you have been able to incorporate exercise into your journey. That will definitely help! Take care!💜💜💜💜

Hi Snowwhite. I'm a couple of years younger than you, but like you I decided to try and shad a few pounds a couple of weeks ago. I drink less than I did at one time but still enjoy my happy hour with a couple of beers on most days. In spite of that, I've been able to lose a couple of pounds in the first week. I am fortunate in that I am stll able to participate in most physical activities and I plan to gradually increase the level of exercise as I proceed. I think my key however is watching my diet, moderating and substituting foods to ensure I stay under my daily limit. So far it seems to be working!

Sounds like you are doing really well!! I’m younger but I’m almost completely bed bound other than getting out of bed to sit at my desk and the occasional drs. Appointment. I’ve stuck to about 100g of fat a day, below 30g carbs, and about 30g of fat and I have been losing about 3lbs a week! I was always told 20% of macros should come from protein and 80% from fat!

My prayers are with you. You’ve endured so much. 😞 I like how you are not 100% depriving yourself of your favorites, but scaling back. Good plan!

your doing great Sno I wish I could give up my bread it's only thing I have not conquer so far yet but I don't eat it much like inused to eat it multiple times a day in a sandwich or with garlic bread and salad and spaghetti but I don't eat pasta either so I was easy to give it up but bread is killing me... I'm so happy for you..

I'm half Italian so I will never give up bread. I eat it in moderation. I don't think one has to give up whole foods groups like, meat, dairy or the like. I count calories and give myself 2 cheat meals a week. It confuses your metabolism so you keep losing and you are never deprived of a food you are craving. It keeps me on the wagon per say.

50 mins on the rebounder at 82? That's pretty fantastic! Your balance and endurance is amazing.

You’re doing so well! I know it’s very hard for you to lose with your physical limitations, but you’re doing it! You know what food and drinks are trigger foods for you, and you’ve been able to keep them to a minimum. Good job! Praying things are calm at home!
