Speed walked 1/2 mile today. Did much better. My legs and ankles throb but it feels good to push myself. I can't wait till I can speed walk a full mile. Baby steps but they are still stepd in the right direction. Glad to see that my weight is creeping slowly lower. Thanks for all the support.

Good for you! The walking is great. You will be up to a mile in record time! Do you have an idea on how many steps in 1/2 mile? Have you tried adding in some small weights? I started with 5 lb and worked up to 8 lb and 10 lb weights. The 5 and 8 were hand held and the 10 lb is a kettle ball. At first I put the 5 and 8 lb weights by my chair and worked with them. Hard to ignore them when they are right there! Now I stand and do more of a work out. I lost faster when I started with the weights than with just walking. Weights help to keep skin from sagging. The sagging happens when you lose faster than your skin can adjust.

thanks for the imput honey. I need to add weights to the walking but that is hard to do when working in a hospital. ( I take my walks on my lunch break ). But when I am home I lift weights at my weight bench and will start carrying the weights with me as I stroll in the neighborhood. I read somewhere that there are around 2000 steps in a mile. I work in a busy county hospital so I brought my pedometer from home and have been wearing it while I work. I am averaging anywhere between 5000 to 7000 steps a night on average just doing my job. But I wanted to add some exercise that my body was not accustomed to. Thanks. Hope you are doing well.

I'm glad you do some weights and great that you get so many steps in. Busy job! I should have added the weights help with muscle tone but I'm sure you already know that :) Wish I still had either one of my weight benches. My darlings sold them in a yard sale when I had the big C. They figured I wouldn't need them anymore. Loved working with the one that had arm pulleys and leg lifts. Haven't seen another like it. I try to get at least 5000 steps a day but I have fallen short more times that I would like to admit :( Have a great day!
