Please folks, save some water and food for emergencies. Things are only going to get more expensive anyway, and some things may become scarce. Consider how you might grow some vegetables even if it is in a container on your balcony. You may not be able to grow them right now in cold weather but you can start preparing. Buy some heirloom seeds so when you harvest something you can regrow from the seeds. There are many Youtube videos about how to do this. I do not have a green thumb and the only thing I am growing right now is sweet potato slips. They are so different than regular potatoes in that you put the pointy end of them in water, let it sprout and then plant the sprouts. You can use toothpicks poked in them so just 1/2 is down in the water, which you usually need to change every couple of days. I also am letting some regular potatoes develop some little sprouts before I plant them either whole or cut them and plant sections with an eye or two. Either kind needs to be organic because otherwise, they will have sprout inhibitor sprayed on them.

The prepping sites on Youtube I like best are City Prepping for his calm level headed advice, and Alaska Prepper for his knowledge of what's really happening out there. Even the Provident Prepper has a lot of good information and they are sweet gentle Mormons. I tired of Canadian Prepper because of his inflammatory scare tactics. I do not buy freeze-dried meals because they are very expensive and seem low on protein. It seems "better for me" to buy things to put together for meals. About 10 years ago I did buy some dried fruit powders and a few #10 cans of individual items, but since I live in a very hot valley and have little space, no basement or root cellar those things have about reached their maximum longevity. The 25 to 30-year life span they talk about is at 70 degrees, not 90 or 100. An attic or my south-western facing garage are the worse places to store food. I believe it is best to stay in your own living place if possible in an emergency but wise to develop a bag to quickly take with us (for about 3 days) if we absolutely have to leave due to fire or something like that. I need to refresh mine. I don't leave it in my car because so many are being broken into. City Prepper has a free pamplet to download to help.

I strayed from my strict eating by having desserts 3 days plus ate Chinese last night and put on 2 lbs. That delicious pineapple I had a week or so ago, triggered my sweet tooth. Even though I froze the last 2 portions and lost an lb or two, a couple of days later I had some things that just do not fit with losing weight with my sedentary lifestyle.

I commented to my husband, it's the little things that surprise you. Remember $.99 boxes of Saline crackers? I just paid $4.55 for a box today. Must be soup season!

It is worth a look at Jadam, Korean natural farming. I am trying it, it goes beyond organic gardening to ultra low cost! Even has cheap pest solutions.
