All I do is gain no such thing as losing weight for me. I’ve never had this much trouble losing weight before and I’ve weighed this much. I feel embarrassed for letting myself get like this and ashamed I can’t lose weight...I’m gonna go cry for a bit

Not sure what you’ve tried so far but the only thing that “works” for me is planning/weighing/tracking. I’m not good at winging it, nor am I any good at eating when hungry/stop when full. Terrible cheater at guesstimating amounts.

I understand! We have all had those stages where the scale won’t move, and there’s nothing wrong with a good cry. Don’t be embarrassed. You are on a good path; one hour and one day at a time. Hang in there!☀️☀️☀️

No need to be embarrassed or ashamed. So many people have been or are in the same situation. You aren’t alone ❤️

I feel the same way. COVID didn’t help. I am just starting up again (just started back again 2 weeks ago). I am changing my thinking. Maybe you can switch like me. I am measuring differently. Don’t think as much about the scale, but use a tape measure or number of reps/amount you can lift or endurance.

Tears, shame and guilt are more fattening than any food. Try reading Susie Orbach's "On Eating" It may help you be more kind and compassionate to yourself... and help you let go of the weight. She asks that we look at our feelings rather than our image. I've found her mind set very helpful. Love yourself today.

I’m sorry you are struggling like this! There must be an explanation. I’m new, so I don’t know if you have posted on this before- but these are things that I can think of as a nurse. Have you met with a dietitian to see if they can help you get to the bottom of this? Sometimes it’s more than just a calorie deficit and matters where those calories are coming from and how our bodies process them. Has your doctor checked your vitamin/hormones/ thyroid levels? I have hypothyroidism and if those aren’t just right, losing weight is impossible. Are you taking measurements to see if those are changing even if the scale is going the wrong way? Are you on medications that could cause issues with weight gain or water retention (steroids are just one example)? Are you drinking plenty of water (not to be gross but your pee should be almost clear if you are hydrated enough)?

Thanks all! I my blood tested again for my thyroid but all my numbers came back fine again. I’ve gained 30 pounds since November 2019 and I’m exhausted all day long no matter how much sleep I get. Doctor told to me exercise more but I’m exhausted I can’t. And he told me only 1200 calories per day which is bad because if you cut your calories that low it will mess you up more. I’m thinking of going to see a endocrinologist and see they have any insight on wtf is wrong with me. For now I guess I’ll exercise even when I’m flat out exhausted and not eat very little seems to the answer that everyone keeps telling me

Who cares- an endocrinologist is a great idea. They look at things through a different set of lenses than a primary care/family doctor. I had a PCP tell me my TSH was in normal range when it was at the high end of the range on the lab printout. I went to an endocrinologist and he said it was too high and he got it dialed in much lower. That’s when I was able to lose weight. Best of luck to you!

My tsh number was 2.9 but it has risen every 6 months. I normally get blood work twice a year..so December 2020 it was 1.9 but in theory it’s still in the normal range. I mean I could understand if I was eating cookies, pizza 24/7 but I don’t. And being exhausted all the time grr.. lol waiting to hear back to see the endocrinologist

Whocares - do you have an endo already or are you getting your tsh checked by your pcp? I had a lot of the same symptoms that you described and I had a full pituitary panel work up. My problems ended up being a tumor on the pituitary that was secreting growth hormone. I would have never expected that, but I always advocate getting a second opinion from a specialist, in this case an endo. Good luck!

My primary doctor took my blood work. I’m waiting to hear back from the endocrinologist I found one in my area with a 5 star rating so hopefully I can get in to see him

I agree with jojobean- specialists are always the way to go for possible hormone/endocrine issues. Mine even checked vitamin levels and found I was deficient. The pituitary gland is the master gland so that always needs to be checked out as a possible suspect (like Law and Order lol!). TSH is not the only thing they should be checking if suspecting a thyroid issue, but many PCPs only check that. I hope this endocrinologist can see you soon and solve the mystery for you.

Whocares, you might want to ask your doctor about doing a sleep study. You say that you get sleep but you’re always tired. It’s possible that you are not getting the proper kind of sleep and that you may have sleep apnea.
