mjl1961's Journal, 11 May 21

It's been 1 month and I'm down 16 pounds. I know, I heard all about "Lose it slowly or you'll gain it back, plus more"
Don't, no I'M NOT!!! going to let that happen.
While doing this diet, I've discovered a few things about myself.
My eating habits have been about just putting something in my mouth, not just because I was hungry, or bored or searching for a substitute for something I'm missing in life.
I did it because what I was eating tasted good and I wanted it. And instead of just 1 (jelly donut) I'd have 3, maybe 4.
During this journey of trying to get control of my crazy eating habits and weight, I've learned it's not a easy struggle. But I am the one in control.
By using this app, and entering EVERYTHING not just what I think I should and avoid the bad stuff, I can see my mistakes. Also found there are a lot of hidden calories in items you didn't suspect. (Bottled Ice tea- This is just a example)

Anyway, by identify my weaknesses and trying to increase my strengths. as well as educating myself about some foods I know I can hit my goal.
108.4 kg Lost so far: 10.4 kg.    Still to go: 33.6 kg.    Diet followed: Reasonably Well.

I think the whole "Lose it slowly" is a bunch of malarkey, personally. There are many here on FS who refuse to overhaul their way of eating (WOE) to get rid of the big offenders (chips, donuts, oversized portions, junk food, etc.) and they are still overweight after YEARS of dieting. And of course, they still have high blood pressure, diabetes, and still have to pop a pharmacy of pills. You have lost a ton of weight in 1 month because you have cut calories, presumably to a level that supports a thinner person. Keep doing that. It will slow down after a few months, and you'll have to increase your exercise and reduce the calories further. More things will have to exit your diet (like the sugary drinks and donuts), but you won't miss them if you've found foods that are healthy and yummy to replace them (like watermelon and frozen grapes, both of which contain lots of water and are naturally sweet).

It’s amazing what you think as low carb or low in calories isn’t always true. I myself found that out also so I began trying to log my foods before eating and then if necessary play with the numbers to what I want for a end result

You are speaking a lot of truth here. Measure it, log it, eat it, repeat.

Regarding the calories in bottled tea. I feel the same way about fruit juice. I grew up in Florida, where eating a lot of citrus is just what you do! Apparently 12 oz of orange juice (which is def a large glass) has more sugar than a can of soda. Who knew? Not fair! But now I only drink half a cup at a time.

Initial weight loss is often fast when you have a lot to lose. I think it’s awesome and you should enjoy it while it lasts! Great work! It will slow on its own. Congrats to you learning how to control yourself! 👍🏻

I am with you 100%... I eat because it’s delicious and tasty, but will be out of control if I don’t practice portion control! Keep up the great effort!
