JustBananas's Journal, 31 Mar 21

Today I walked 3 miles (and 3 back) for my annual doctor visit(s), and it turns out that my home scale and their office's scale are the same, so no surprises (Whew!).

Height: 5'5"
Weight: 133.0
Body Fat (BMI): 22%
Blood Pressure: 91/67

Lipid Panel:
Total Cholesterol: 206 (ideal is <199)
HDL: 51
LDL: 130 (ideal is <99)
Trig: 124
Potassium: 2.4 (ideal is 3.5 - 5.0)

I am not on any medications, and I told the doctor that I will not take anything for cholesterol, even if she did suggest some. Will just diet and exercise more. She just told me to take more vitamin D and magnesium -- for what? Turning 50? Who knows. Maybe it's preventative at this point. I already take a daily multivitamin.

Did get potassium pills prescribed. I am always low on this. Am used to it, but doctors always freak out. ((shrugs))

So because I didn't lose much by this appointment as planned, I punished myself by walking into a salon and chopping off all of the hair that still had pre-Covid color. It looks short and HORRIBLE now but feels so soft and healthy. It will look reasonable in about 3 months, and I am still rewarding myself at 125 lbs. with another trip to my stylist for a new haircolor. Incentive to lose more and fast!!

I'll look like a brand new person! Happy hump day, all!

I see a lot of reason to celebrate instead of punishment!

Hi Mesatop -- I was trying to lose 1-2 more pounds before today's appointment, but only dropped half a pound. More work to do!

You're doing great and the scale of both correct. body fat % isn't terrifying for your height and weight. did you feel better after the square paper gown😁 jokingly said no offense. I bet your hair is better than you think. now you have something to work with when you get that new wardrobe. 🤗🤗 loves to you and a great bill of health 💙💙💗💙💙

Thanks HCB, Slow Meta, and Chow! Compared to last year, yeah, the work has paid off, inside and out. Blueberry -- those square paper gowns rip to shreds the moment you sit down. I usually give up within 5 minutes of fighting them for coverage. Luckily my doc is female, so I just toss them aside and immediately get dressed when she's finished with the petri dish part. And no, my hair looks awful. I expected it, so I'm not crying over it. Just need to grow it out about 2 inches and then I'll have something to work with.

Magnesium solved my leg cramps, foot cramps etc. Take both oil directly on cramp area and ingest daily along with multi vitamins. That has worked well for me. Also do not take any statins or other meds. Feel wonderful! Vitamin D is the go to for Covid avoidance.

Magnesium and Vitamin D are essential for calcium absorption 👌

I mix unsweetened cocoa powder with a banana for a chocolate treat , no guilt and extra potassium. Add a little milk and freeze for NiceCream.

So glad those numbers are good other than slightly high cholesterol! Sounds like you’re taking care of your health. ❤️❤️❤️

Thats great you had a good appt and your weight was the same! Its so funny because I went yesterday too, as you probably know and my BP and cholesterol are fairly close to yours. My doc said she wouldn't advise putting me on cholesterol med yet because of my age. I'm about 7 years older than you. But my BP diastolic was 48! She's referred me to a cardiologist. But my ECG, x-rays and bloodwork were all normal! It did feel so much better going and being thinner!!!! So I hope you felt good about that too!!! But their scale weighed me 3lbs heavier with clothes and shoes on! 😊

I bet your hair isn't as bad as you think! Sometimes it just takes time getting used to something different and figuring out how to style it.

Thanks everyone for the explanations on the Vit D and Magnesium. I'm all up for prevention if it involves natural therapies like vitamins and minerals.

Judy -- everything that I've read about statins for women is that they should be avoided like the plague unless you're about to keel over by dinnertime. Apparently men do not have the same side effects on them. Doctors always seem to prescribe them without even mentioning changes in diet & exercise as a first alternative. Perhaps they have given up hope that people will make the effort to turn their lives around without popping pills.

Bear-- your diastolic was 48? Good grief, did you doze off? That's a real resting number 😄. And yes, the hair is short, too short, without any color treatments, and makes me look MUCH older. This is a growout phase, similar to growing out bangs (no, I do not have bangs). Time will fly by before I know it. Realistically speaking, it will take about 10 months to bring it back to my version of acceptable.
