It's tough to stay on the straight and narrow. We all want it so much: to be at a lower weight, be more trim, and healthier. But the cravings and allure of all the tasty stuff we want to have seduces us. It takes an enormous amount of discipline to say no to ourselves and all the temptations that aren't even necessarily bad but don't take us the direction we want to go. Even though I am back on track finally, every meal is a struggle. I want...I want...I want... all those other things, plus a couple of glasses of wine with them. And after a half cake just for me, chocolate please, Or maybe a cheesecake. I could run go make one...

I have been fasting 16 or 17 hours every day, which helps. The hunger comes on strong then dissipates for a while, then comes back. Every day, every hour is a struggle. I sure agree with Debbie Cousins and her commenters that speak of thinking of food all day long. Me too. Wow, I thought there was something wrong with me.

Something that helps me is to find healthier versions of the things I want. So I still eat what I want and don't feel deprived. For example, I make chocolate hummus every week and once a day eat 2 tbsp of it with a few strawberries. That way I still enjoy a chocolate treat but I'm satisfied without eating much because it is loaded with fiber. My mom lost 100 lbs and has kept it off for 7 years. She taught me that the mindset needs to shift from "temporary diet" to "healthy lifestyle" and it would be a sad life to be miserable all day thinking I can't enjoy the foods I want. I wish you luck whatever you decide to do and I wish you ease and pleasure when it comes to food choices ❤️

you could also try blending a frozen banana with a teaspoon or two of raw unsweetened cocoa powder with whatever you usually use for milk as a treat... or for breakfast try blending two packed cups of spinach until it is just juice. then add the frozen banana, two teaspoons of cocoa powder and your favorite nut butter. if you still need more liquid add coffee or whatever you normally use for milk.

Hang in there, Snowy. You've done this successfully before, and you can do it again. Stay strong. Resist those temptations. And, if you yield to them, forgive yourself and start fresh again immediately.

That is one thing I don't like. The planning of meals and constantly thinking about what you put in your body can get overwhelming sometimes. I count macros and I usually eat pretty clean ( just not this week while on vaca) but for me the discipline is necessary. Keep at it, success is attainable!

Ironically, the effort to follow our programs involves thinking about food all the more! I suspect a lot of craving is due to an underlying (subconscious and erroneous) belief that some favored food will no longer be available. And the whole game where if you oughtn't to have it you want it all the more. My mind trick is to look at off limits foods as if they are plastic food replicas.

Snow White, if I may ask...how tall are you? I know you said in your current bio you're at an OK weight...you're trying to eat healthier. Please don't take this wrong....but I think at this point in your life if you'd like a glass of wine or to just eat period you deserve it. Why be uncomfortable...as in hungry?

As most of you have heard me say until you are sick of hearing it is that weight control is about healthier choices most of the time and less healthy or less likely to contribute to you achieving your goal once in a while. Deprivation does NOT work. There is a method to this that can make this doable for life if you can master portion control and moderation.

I'm not sure if you're doing keto or not. Personally I found if my protein intake is 20-23% of my calories I don't crave sweets. But it also took about 3 weeks for the cravings to go away.
