moufette123's Journal, 27 Jun 20

I know this is a major weight loss. However, this is a fluke, as I just had my uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) earlier this week!

Obviously I was not very hungry the next two days. Then I pretty quickly got my appetite back and started eating what I used to eat: some premade ground beef, some veggies, scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese. I even ate a couple of cherries yesterday! I still drink water and I gradually added back coffee. The only thing that annoys me is constipation -- I took some PEG 3350 yesterday, but I think I will have to take some later today again. I just drank my first keto coffee since the procedure. Maybe that will help.

The pain is not as bad as I read online. It is like my period: very intermittent, sometimes intense, sometimes light, sometimes no pain at all. I have a feeling that the medication I have been taking (Tylenol with naproxen) may or may not be effective, because it is hard to make it sync with the pain. Then again, I did not take any yesterday. After my 2014 myomectomy, the pain was more intense, but quickly subsided in a matter of days, then would come back once in a while. It was hard to hop into bed and get out of it; now after my UFE, no difference.

I still have some spotting and I still have to take iron supplementation, as I was told that my iron levels are low. All that steak I have been eating in the past weekends cannot beat heavy and/or extended bleeding apparently.

Good news about my blood pressure: it is still good, it even was when I was waiting in the prep zone before my procedure! This was not the case before my 2014 myomectomy.

The main thing that worries me: I had to undergo a Covid test before the UFE and get a negative result, otherwise no UFE. I tested negative and the procedure was done. Problem is (they told me the next morning), they put me in a closed room shared with a lady that tested positive! And she did a lot of talking, screaming and even singing! I had a mask and we were separated by a curtain, but that is not very reassuring since she was very often not wearing her mask! I was told that she has supposedly recovered from Covid and that the positive result was due to remaining virus particles. OK, but then I was exposed to those remaining particles! And they knew I am hypertensive! This is really frustrating and the only thing I can do is hope that this lady was not contagious, wait for 2-3 weeks, cross my fingers that I don't develop any symptoms, don't infect my live-in friend and don't die! If I survive this by mid or end of July, I am so going to buy some champagne or sparkling wine and celebrate!

In the end, death is not the only thing I worry about from Covid. There is also the aftermath of the disease, which can sometimes leave to survivors many unpleasant (and maybe permanent -- nobody knows) consequences often caused by blood clots, like heart issues, respiratory issues, brain issues, long-term fatigue.

In the meantime, I hope that the UFE will be effective in reducing my menstrual blood flow for a while. I will have a follow-up appointment that is to be scheduled sometime in mid-August and a follow-up MRI in about 6 months.

I am happy and grateful to be relaxing right now, but I have to go back to work (from home) next week and I am almost looking forward to this. Overcast to rainy all weekend in my area, but I don't mind. The sun will eventually come back. Sorry for the long ranty novel and have a great weekend!

Nice to hear that you had the procedure done and that it went well. Hope recovery goes smoothly. You needed this. Happy about your losses as well. That is just so infuriating about them making you share a room with someone with Covid. How is that even happening. Quebec has been so weird, I think. Can you get tested again for Covid? I think you have a good reason. Enjoy the weekend. Coffee helps!

Thansk Moufette. Testing is very quick now and you get the result the next day so that helps keep things under control as we are opening up almost everything now. I usually wear a mask and gloves whenever I go some where still but people are getting laxer, understandingly so now that there are not that many cases.
