Day 5 of a planned 5 days of ‘no solid food’ fasting

So I lost 8 pounds in 4 days. Nice 👍🏾😁

Most of that is 'water weight' from the reduction of glycogen in my muscle tissue, but, some of it, I believe, was stored fat.

The thing that is important is that I took in 3,670 calories over those 4 days for an average calorie intake of 917 calories a day.

This is a lot.

The key was only taking in 15 carbs a day over the 4 days. Another key thing for me, because I was drinking protein shakes the entire time, was to keep my protein below 100 grams a day (I actually did an average of 62 grams of protein per day).

My reasoning is that my body can only work with what is in my blood stream. The key issue is that my brain needs glucose or ketones (#Keto!), so the stored fat can be converted to ketones, using Ketogenesis, and glucose, using Gluconeogenesis…. (And you know what Gluconeogenesis can also convert to glucose? protein… [See: http://journal.diabetes.org/diabetesspectrum/00v13n3/pg132.htm])

My point being, everything has to hit my blood stream first.

However, what I eat is also in my blood stream. Everything coming in goes into my blood stream. Therefore my body makes its decision to store or burn fat by evaluating its needs and what is in my blood stream.

Why would my body burn fat if my blood stream is already full of what it needs?

This is why not filling my blood stream of those nutrients, by eating, forces my body to burn fat. I don’t look at calories, because my body makes its decisions on the volume of the nutrients it needs, not the calories of the food that originally put the source of those nutrients into my blood stream.

Anyway, mostly because it just makes me feel good, I will try to run today… 🏃🏾‍♂️

😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!

@Erquiaga - Thanks :) Too bad I don't have the motivation to continue through the weekend. If I did, I feel I would hit my goal BMI weight of 164 by this time next week (I am sure my loss would slow as I would have lost the big 'water wight' moves...)

@Erquiaga - Thank you for your contributions to the discussion yesterday, I learned a lot that may help me in the future 👍🏾

I think D has some great info here Adef. Is losing 8 lbs in 4 days safe?

Nice job, Adef, you've got great commitment, and that takes a lot of discipline and focus, so much I would add, that you don't have room for the distraction of worrying about criticism, amirite?

@AboutMyTribe - I am sorry but the member you refer to is abusive and knowingly contributed to great harm of other users and friends over the years. Constantly making multiple posts is a technique to make a person feel persecuted and force them to 'avoid controversy'. Keep in mind harassment is defined by the person 'receiving it' NOT the person giving it (otherwise an abusive spouse would just say "they are taking it wrong"). I therefore do not engage with such people and say "well tey make good points" when I SEE that they are clearly abusing other members of this site. South Africa had to change when the rest of the world finally stopped supporting them. This abuse of member of this site will continue as long as others of this site act like it is ok. Well, people can make their own decisions, I have made mine.

No criticism Phil - just genuine concern. 8 lbs in 4 days? I could be wrong, but that doesn't sound safe. 1-2 lbs/week is usually healthier.

@Phil.tx - 👍🏾

I didn't specify you, AboutMyTribe. What's your name, btw? I don't like referring to you as, "AMT", I think, "alternative minimum tax'! And Adef just made a dead-ass-on post about abuse.

I hear you Adef - I just try my best to see both sides and make a bridge. But yes, definitely do not give attention to those you feel are bullies.

Hello Phil...I am Courtney! lol

I'll try to remember, my almost-fifty-year-old Keto-Dingleberry brain isn't as sharp as it used to be!

Great post Adef. Your understanding of the brain and ketones and mine are the same. Have you read Volek/Phinney on keto and performance, including building muscle? Here's a brief vid, if interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtKP9qzIt0s Interesting stuff. Thanks for the post.

Well done 👍

@Adefwebserver, I think your restricting your calorie intake to around 917 calories a day played some part in your weight loss. Exactly how big a part is debatable. I think we all have to acknowledge that it's very likely that you had huge calorie deficits on your days of ‘no solid food’ fasting.

the devil is in the details and you do pay good attention to all the little pieces :)

@AboutMyTribe - Understood. This is an old argument that has been going on for years before you were on the site :)
