Day 4 of a planned 4 days of ‘no solid food’ fasting

I would like to drop down to my “BMI Weight” at 164lbs.

Not-gonna-happen... this week at least. Tonight I plan to ‘eat’ Pizza... probably…

When people ask me how I lost weight, I tell them I lost it fast. That is my advice. Lose the weight as quickly as possible. Weight maintenance, after you have reached your goal weight, requires a completely separate strategy (otherwise you would continue to lose weight until you disappeared). So, if you want to lose weight, just lose it. Get that part over as fast as you can. No need to drag it out…

To lose weight I only need to burn fat. My body will burn fat when-it-has-to (otherwise my body is lazy and it will get what it needs by *not* burning fat when it can). One of the things my body must have is adequate glucose. If my body can’t get it in a more convenient way, (for example from my blood stream after the enzymes secreted from my pancreas has broken down the food in my stomach), it will get it by burning fat.

This is why low carb works. If I don’t ‘eat’ enough carbs, my body has to burn fat to get it. People may have a hard time staying low carb for long periods of time, but when I go low carb for several days, I lose-weight-every-time. Also the ‘rate’ that I lose weight will be directly related to my macros *not* the amount of calories (for example I still must limit excess protein because proteins break down into amino acids and they can be used to create glucose through gluconeogenesis).

So, why don’t I keep low carb for the next 3 weeks and drop down to my goal weight?

Because-I-already-did-that.

Last year, I hit my goal weight, took a lot of pictures. People I work with every day would stop me in the hall and remark how skinny I was… blah blah blah.

Then, you wake up the next day, and now what?

So, I have been on ‘maintenance’ for over a year now. I fluctuate between 165lbs and 175lbs. The same thing up and down, up and down. It’s not a bad life. However, when I am around 170lbs I just-can’t-find-the-motivation to ‘low carb it’ to get down to 164lbs.

Maybe next week…

😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!

Great post. I want to see the National Enquirer headline: "Man Disappears. Family Blames Too Much Weight Loss." Oh and then maybe a twist, "Police Do Not Suspect Foul Play" --- the fiction writer in me says that there's at least a short story here somewhere! But I think you make a good point: get to your target weight, get it over and done with. And a lot of stuff is like that, I think. Start living the life you want now, don't wait. Don't procrastinate on being happy, motivated, fulfilled, excited about life! Get to it. Start! . . . Now! . . . Trying! Thanks for the post. Oh and I agree about the macros.

@HardDaysKnight - I got a lot of criticism last year because I lost weight so fast by fasting (this drives your carbs and protein to practically zero and forces the body to burn fat). People said 'slower is better'. What they were trying to say is 'learn to eat healthy and you can just eat that same way to maintain your weight'. If I followed that advice I would be still trying to lose the initial 50 pounds. Plus, eating 'the same way' for the rest of my life is not practical for me. 'Mentally' I *need* to eat McDonald's hamburgers and fries from time to time.

I agree, adef, motivation is everything when trying to lose weight. Also that maintenance is completely different.

@Adefwebserver, I totally get it as far as losing the weight fast and focusing on maintenance, I don't think I could do hard core fasting the way you did, but the emotionalism of a slow journey can really trip up a lot of people. You have clearly found what works for you. Congrats.

“Your BMI weight?”... is that appprox your weight at 20% BMI?

@60pack - 5'8" 164lbs = 24.9 BMI (Normal) 👍🏾

@Katsolo - Water fasting is harder, but no solid food fasting allows me to take in 700-1200 calories a day. Wayyy easier :)

@nikeit, @gz9gjg - Thanks!

@jenjabba - I have to keep my carbs *and* protein low, but, your protein is not what I consider high, so you are still the 'outlier'...

Adefwebserver, I love your approach and want to study your "no solid food fast" technique. Can I just look at your food diary and tell from that?

I have too short of an attention span to lose weight slowly. I’d still be trying to stay under 190# right about now if I hadn’t found my own “fast” formula 😄 We are blessed 🙏🏻

@CrashtestDawnie - Yes! We-are-Blessed! - - SO Blessed 🙌🏾

@Miraculum - Yes, the one thing I do is to log everything I eat :) You will see that I lose weight when my carbs are around 20 and protein around 60. Water fasting or no solid food fasting, it doesn't matter. I hit those levels (or lower) on those two macros and weight loss occurs. The key is to do it continuously. Right now I completely go off that diet every weekend. That is why I consider myself in 'weight maintenance' right now :)
