Snowwhite100's Journal, 20 Jul 19

My husband and I have been working in the yard for several hours each day this week. We dug and tore out the plants that were overridden with crab grass and weeds, in an area about 5' x 40', down the side of the house and driveway. Unfortunately the next door neighbor is not keeping up his yard at all and the weeds and their seeds come on over. We had overgrown gazanias, with only five roses at the very far end, so just dug them and their infiltrated tall weed grasses out, only leaving the roses. It was hard work but satisfing since some of the garden part of our front yard is covered with nearly the same. I borrowed 3 big trash bins from neighbors, plus our 2, and they are all very heavy with the debris. It's wonderful that the two of us “oldies” could do it, even if it did take a long time.

My husband had already put one railroad tie down the property line to help hold back the neighbors jungle of weeds and says he will continue the line. I have no idea how he will transport them since our van burned up on the freeway last year. Neighbors can help lift them into place, but delivery will probably be our only option, and will be expensive. I know he misses his van. Years ago, I used to spend about 30 hours a week tending our yard. Plus there were a few years, I spent more on buying flowers for it in the summertime, than on our food budget for four.

We went to a doctors visit for my husband Thursday and I didn't eat till we got back into our valley about 4pm. I ate smart but then indulged in pastry. It wasn't as good as I expected but the old addiction to the sweetness is always satisfying so stupidly kept eating it. Yes, my weight was up the next day, but luckly was back down the next. Maybe partly because I had gone so long without food, it was actually not that many calories over. I am what Rosio said I am: skinny fat. It's discouraging. I can't exercise much with my bad back, but will just continue with my little rebounder. Yes, I need to bite the bullet and start again with core strengthing on the floor. My fingers were so sore tonight from digging and pulling plants and weeds, I was gratified to see that the Tumeric I took helped.

All that yard work is great exercise! I have a big yard, mostly weeds and even with a weekly yard care service I have to do quite a bit. But no way could I do several hours of yard work. 30 minutes and I have to come inside and take a nap.
