Day 3 of a planned 4 days of ‘no solid food’ fasting

The reason why normal #Keto eating doesn’t work for me is that I go on an eating ‘Binge’.

For me, this kicks off from eating *any food*, not just sugar. People said I had to 'toughen up'. I tried, but, I couldn't. I thought there was no hope for me. Good thing I didn't listen to them...

People suggested therapy. Therapy is about finding acceptance, finding the strength to move past present fears, making decisions, and moving on. It doesn’t make the ‘outside world’ *different or better*. Yes therapy can provide *insight and knowledge* but, that is surprisingly useless for 'solving a problem', that requires some 'action'. I still have to make the decisions, and change.

The only thing knowledge ever provided was a ‘greater fear’ to ‘motivate’ a different behavior.

The key component is fear, fear, fear.

A ‘Binge’ is caused by the ‘fear’ of ‘not getting enough’. Yes it is ‘irrational’ but, *fears require no logic*. This is the same fear that causes people to not let a driver in who wants to cut in front of them (now me, I usually ‘let them in’ 😜).

I have learned that there is only two ways to ‘get past’ any fear:

#1 Wait for the thing you fear to happen or pass
#2 Find a *greater* fear

Ironically it is #1 that helps with the ‘diet’. ‘After’ a ‘binge’ the fear is gone. The fear doesn’t come back *until I start eating* or (and this is key) *plan to eat*. If I do neither, the ‘fear’ (keep in mind it is ‘irrational’ anyway), is not there.

This is why I fast. This is my 'action', this is the 'change' I made.

What I found is that 'fear' doesn't 'go away'. It is a continuum.

However, since I can only fast so much, I discovered I can get the same results by simply not eating solid food.

😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!

I love your self reflection and self awareness. I can definitely identify with 100% of what you are saying. How perfectly put!

I think therapy is about finding what works for you in a way that is not harmful to mind, body or soul. I think you got this!

@KayBuckaroo, @shiny50 - Thanks for the support! Of course, I am not telling anyone else what to feel or think, I am only jotting down my own thinking right now...

So I was just in a meeting, and they catered it from Panera Bread. They had boxes of top quality food right there for all of us. I seriously considered breaking my fast early (this would have been really stupid). I remembered this post, that my desire to break the fast was based on 'missing out on this opportunity'. But, really, I can't get Panera Bread anytime I want? It was illogical. However, *Fear Requires No Logic* Its job is to 'keep us alive'. Fear doesn't have time to consider if the lion is really going to eat you, fear says "Run!" 😁 - - I passed on the food... :)

Good job on passing on the catered food. Before I retired I ate lots of things I didn't even want just because they were available in meetings or provided for staff when working overtime. Ate lots of doughnuts and I don't even really like them that much.

Therapy also helps you think of things you haven't thought of before...each of us is limited, a fresh perspective from someone else's point of view helps greatly sometimes. Also...for me...the greatest thing I've found to conquer fear is to face it and deal with it instead of ignoring the problem. I don't recall seeing the response to that question you said people have asked...have you ever tried counseling for this? I know you've seen I struggle with the same thing...I'm currently trying to learn more to have better tools to not do this any more....I got that book and hopefully my counselor will have some fresh insight.

You could also try a different counselor with more expertise in this area

I won’t argue the merits of therapy. If it works for you, great! If not, find something healthy that helps! I also understand your drive to want to go toward something. That’s actually how I feel about my WOE. I focus on what I should eat so much that I don’t really think about eating what I shouldn’t. It works for me. I’m not an all or nothing kind of guy.

when I feel like enforcing on food, I just add lettuce tomatoes relish mustard a little mayo to a sandwich and bam! that kills my urge without causing any real damage. Keep is posted on your liquid diet!

I too used to eat too much on a Keto diet, I will try doing a liquid only diet, I think it will be hard for me though!!🙄 IF is working great, I have lost muscle along with my fat. My core is weaker and when I try to do a handstand and I fall to the side. I do train everyday but now I need to add weights
