Day 3 of a planned 4 days of ‘no solid food’ fasting

If something can be ‘controlled’ it is not an *addiction*. There are those of us who, once we start eating, go on a ‘binge’ and can’t stop until we are ‘full/stuffed’.

Someone who is able to *stopping-doing-that* is not a person who has that *addiction* they are just people who *made-bad-choices-in-the-past* and were “motivated” to “change their ways”.

The person who *is* motivated to change, but, cannot ‘change their ways’ is the person who is *addicted*. Telling this person to “act right” or “change” or (this is the one that is really unhelpful) “learn” to act differently, is a waste of time, because, by definition, if the person has an *addiction* to ‘binging’ they will be unable to do this. This is another one you will hear: “You don’t really have an addiction, there is no such thing”.

Ok, so people with a true *addiction* to ‘binging’ (or anything) have one choice: **stop-trying-to-control-the-addiction**. This is different than **stop-doing-the-thing-that-they-are-addicted-to**. If you are addicted to alcohol, stop drinking alcohol. You are no longer trying to ‘control it’ you are ‘avoiding the issue’.

Obviously food is harder, but, most people are not addicted to binging on *all food* just certain food. This is usually **sugar**. If given a bowl of Kale, even the most **food binge addicted person** is suddenly able to ‘eat in moderation’.

For myself, I have found that when I limit myself to liquids, I may still ‘binge’ but, I will usually limit the ‘damage’ (high carbs, protein, and calories) wayyy better than when I binge on ‘solid food’.

😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!

I'll also add that it looks like you've found the true Fat Secret Adef. That a binge or two does not mean we have to throw our hands in the air and "give up", that acceptance of diet imperfections, taking a long term approach and accounting for our "failures" by countering with strategies that work for each of us as individuals makes long term success possible.

I'll also add that what works for me, for sure wouldn't work for a lot of people. Same goes for some other folks that have had success here on FS. Each method (IIFYM, CICO, Keto, Paleo, Vegan, IMF, Fasting, etc.) can work to maintain an energy deficit (to lose fat weight) or energy balance (to maintain a healthy weight/body fat), the trick is to find what works easiest and best for each of us.

I can actually overeat kale and most veg and fruit. If it tastes good and I don't control portions in some way, I will over eat it. Glad we don't kill and eat whole bison anymore...

@Steven Lloyd - Yeah I wanted to call out "Addiction" because it is a situation where -you have no choice- (this is a very Controversial/Radical thing to say - - MOST people do-not-beleive-this-or-accept-this). I bring this up, because I see a lot of 'advise' on this site and in life where people keep insisting that the person who wants to lose weight *Needs to do this certain thing*. And when the person cannot do that thing, the answer is "Well, you will continue to fail at losing weight". It is important to me that people like myself *reject* this way of thinking.
