Day 1 of a planned 3 days of ‘no solid food’ fasting
Blood sugar 98 mg/dL

I always say that ANY fast is a 'successful fast'. For example, yesterday I planned to water fast until the evening (to make 2 full days), but, I had a small packet of cream in my coffee at the tech conference I was at. Just this was enough to set off 'hunger' 1/2 hour later. Then they had the rooms so cold my hands were freezing and I started getting sleepy. I came home and had a scoop of protein powder in heavy cream and hot water. My fast was still successful. It was cut short by 5 hours, but, that is just an arbitrary number I set.

At the tech conference, before one breakout session, I did a quick survey of my fellow tech people. 15 men over 30 years old. 5 morbidly obese. Only one man, other than myself, who even came close to BMI weight. Most of the men under 30 were in better shape, but there were still some obese ones, and the majority were still overweight. However, a handful were “in good shape”.

I use this group as an example because tech people sit on their buts a lot and most do not exercise much. When this group gets old they pack on the pounds like no tomorrow. Age does matter, a lot. As an obese 49 year old, I was not unusual in this group, I was the ‘norm’.

Anyway, weight loss this week will be slow because I decided to go back to having my ‘protein coffee’ in the morning.

💣 Do I need this? No.
💣 Does it work against me because it can trigger hunger when my blood sugar drops? Yes.

But, pure ‘water fasting’ is mentally exhausting. I would rather suck down protein shakes all day whenever I want them, than to have to put in a ton of ‘mental effort’ all day long.

However, if I start eating ‘solid food’ through the day I ‘binge’ and get fat real quick! Glad I have something that works for me.

Perhaps I will have the energy to resume the ‘mental effort’ of a ‘pure water fast’ tomorrow... or next week…

😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!

Lets just think about that tomorrow! I like your theory...

@To145 - Thanks for the support! I just wanted to journal 'when I'm not feeling it' because that is the way I am, I go 'back and forth'. I can never stay 'on point' all the time... heck, I'm lying, I can't stay 'on point' even 'most of the time' Haha!

Great observation. I have also observed over the years (mostly friends and family) that many males that were fit athletes in high school, gained weight after they were no longer active at the same level they once were, but still continued with the same eating habits they had while playing sports, especially football, almost always gained a lot of weight and kept it on into older years, making them lead an unhealthy life with medical issues. I know it's a pretty obvious thing to notice and it renforces the basic theory of too many calories taken in and not enough burned. My 32 year old son, who was always in good shape until recent years has decided to lose weight and get in shape. He falls into the category mentioned above. I have been talking to him about what is needed to lose weight and because both his father and I have recently lost weight, he does listen to our tips. So, this is an entire different type of payoff for getting healthier and losing weight; helping one of our kids on their decision to improve their health. All of that said, I am thankful for this site and especially for those like you Adef, for sharing and teaching me and in turn making it possible for me to pass that knowledge on to others.

Premier protein offers a clear protein drink - 20gr protein, 1 carb, 90 cal, no sugar. I think if I were going to fast I'd probably go that route. Always with the loopholes. It's prebottled so no mixing and when I have one in the morning I really don't feel hunger for several hours and it doesn't spike my blood sugar.

Same observation for women. Here in frozen Michigan, being in the wrong time zone adds to the problem. It's difficult to do outdoor exercise before work when it's so dark and cold and icy underfoot.

You will lose weight tomorrow! Sometimes even fasting I gain weight, we never know how the body is going to react.

@FullaBella - The Quest Vanilla Protein Powder is so delicious, If I gave you the shake that I drink every night (2 scoops in heavy cream with crushed ice in a blender), you would not be able to tell it was a protein shake :)

Good job on the fast, even if you cut it slightly short. Water fasting definitely takes more out of me mentally than just doing OMAD of IF. I could do a few day fast each week for the next 3 or 4 weeks and be at my ideal weight but it’s just not worth the mental work that it takes to do that 🤷‍♀️ I’ll wait 😀

I understand - I love the powdered shakes too. I just meant I'd probably try to slip the clear protein drinks into my 'fast'.

@Keilin_4 - I was able to run this morning, so I think I will drop tomorrow too :)

@CrashtestDawnie - You have an 'iron will' so if something is hard for you, I don't have a 'prayer' Haha!

@FullaBella - I don't disagree with you, a 1 carb 90 cal protein drink is way better than a powdered one at twice the calories and carbs :)

Lots of good reasons to consume protein, especially on a calorie deficit, maintaining muscle mass, inhibiting appetite two big ones...very hard to over do it too.
