Day 1 of a planned 1 day OMAD 'One Meal A Day'

Blood sugar 85 mg/dL

👎🏾 Did I keep my net carbs below 10? No
👎🏾 Did I keep my protein below 90g? No
👎🏾 Is my morning blood sugar in the 70s? No

I lost a pound yesterday, but mid day I was down three pounds🤔

I now accept that when I start hitting the 🥛 "Quest Vanilla Milkshake Protein Powder, Land O'Lakes Heavy Whipping Cream, and SPLENDA" during the day I experience 'actual hunger' and I have to keep drinking more throughout the day. Since I give my body nothing else, it will use it like carbs. I can still sometimes lose a pound, but if I only consumed Green tea I would have lost 2-3 pounds.

Tomorrow I plan to just drink Green Tea during the day.

🏋🏾 Yesterday I went to the gym. The reason is that I have to go on a business trip and wanted to make sure I got to the gym three times in 7 days. Since I committed to going to the gym back in August, I-have-not-missed-this-commitment.

💪🏾 The hotel I will stay at will have a gym, but no matter how nice the hotel gym is, they never have a way for you to do squats. I am sure this is on purpose because lifting heavy weights on a bar over your shoulders is an opportunity to go to the hospital :) When I am in the gym, squats and deadlifts ARE my lifting program. The results are massive, and until I can deadlift 2x my weight I'm not changing a thing...

🏃🏾 I also did a run yesterday. This is why I was down 3 pounds.

📅 Today I plan to hit the gym again. No running, and I plan to eat dinner. Today will not be a day of weightless. I will most likely go on a carb binge once I start eating, so I will hold off as late as possible, say 4:00pm :)

🧘🏾‍♂️ Sure I could TRY to 'control myself', but seriously who are we kidding?? This is who I am. I am 50 years old, I'm not going to change. The best thing is that I-have-a-solution (fasting).

Have a great day everyone!

@chrisw77 - At this point, after a lot of trying, I honestly feel that there is no reason to try to 'eat like others'. Fasting IS a 'solution'. It works! I'm a 50 year old man, at 167lbs contemplating trying to get 'ripped abs' :) Really, I should want for nothing else 🙌🏾

I have to wonder what is really triggering your carb cravings with the coffee protein drink, the protein has dairy, the cream has dairy and the Splenda you have admitted in this powder form hits your cravings. I think I would try the protein powder and cream without Splenda and see if it spikes your carb craving. If it doesn't that will answer one thing. If you still have a spike then the problem may be the dairy. it is helpful to know which things set off the carb monster. sometimes it is the type of carb more then just a low dose of carb. under 15 is a low number. you are in need of a longterm management plan and finding and avoiding triggers along the way will be a very helpful tool.

@Baskington - At this point regular fasting IS my 'long term management plan' :) Of course in the beginning I didn't think I would be able to continue fasting, but, it has now been 6 months! The Splenda may cause a problem but after some soul searching, getting rid of it is not an option. I do not consume any other drug or alcohol. Nothing. Splenda and carbs is the ONLY thing that gives me a 'hit' :)

🧐😜😜😜 it’s that damn Splenda! Lol but as you said. You accept it, so be it. Enjoy your hit! At least it comes goes along with protein and some healthy fats 👍

Oh you should put it in the blender and add a cup of Kale. That would be a nice balanced meal 😬

@CrashtestDawnie - Kale! haha you're funny! :) - - On a serious note, your recent experiment is what brought me to this recent position. I don't want to struggle anymore. I am willing to accept I am the way I am. The good news is that I have a solution.... Now @PrincessValerie just called and is held up so we wont go to the gym for another three hours. So I 'opened my eating window'. I just had some low carb chips and now the 'carb binge' has begun! Its just the way it is :) Now, I can't keep this up, so tomorrow I cant do this. So tomorrow, I simply must abstain from solid food. Trying to 'have a little something' and trying to 'control myself' is crazy at this point. WHYYY do I want to constantly 'fight my nature' and be angry at myself? Why do I work so hard to 'conform' to what I *think* everyone else is doing and wants me to also do? Screw that! :)

That is so cool that you have kept up your gym commitment! That takes a lot of mental fortitude to stick with it!

@nikeit - Thanks! It helps that @PrincessValerie has stuck to the same schedule (unless she has to work). Today she has inserted a 'delay' in our Sunday gym visit so I am blaming the 30 carbs (13 net carbs) that I just 'scarfed down' on her! :) But, now I ma 'carbed up' a bit and plan to add 5lbs to my lifts...

You go with those lifts, dude! Nice you can have your wife be a teammate and someone to blame...hahaha

I don't think you should conform to other peoples ideal of what is best. You know fasting and omad is the way things are manageable for you. you also know if you eat carbs it triggers binges. You also know certain things trigger it for you even in lower individual levels. You also know eating more than 10 carbs can trigger a binge. You also know you have a blood sugar issue. You know binging on carbs can damage your system a little more each time. I think if it was me I would be very concerned with staying stable to help repair that system. but that is me. I am very focused on trying to fix the mess I made of myself by undereating and over working my old damaged body. My mistakes and I own it. Hard to admit but it is the plain hard cold fact.

@Baskington - I don't disagree that logically that is the correct thing to do :) But as Clint Eastwood said in "Magnum Force": "A man's 'gotta' know his limitations" :)

yep and honestly I was not suggesting you give up the sweetener just testing different combo's to find the culprit. just like you have your green tea days, one day trying protein and sweetener no cream to test, one day no sweetener but cream and protein and one day with cream and sweetener and no protein. at least this way you would know if it was one item or the combo that hits the trigger. I totally understand not wanting to give up life's little pleasures. we all need our vices. I have my nicotine you have your sweetener!

Lol yes Why? Must I torture myself??! I do want to just eat “normally” Don’t know if that is an option for me. My saving grace is that I at least know exactly what to do if I can’t eat “normally”

I think you will get better as you adjust Crash you can control those urges and remember those cookies did not taste anywhere near as good as you expected. once you get that part of the new freedom, you will chose those more selectively when you do chose to have those special high sugar treats. Just like when I went to break my diet, I picked my two favorite things and the cookies did not fulfil my dream so I tossed them, no sense wasting my calories on them, I focused on the awesome treat of the chocolate fudge brownie ice cream!
