Day 5 of a planned 11 day 'no solid food fast'

Blood sugar 83 mg/dL

🥛 I posted a picture of the 'Protein Coffee' I drink every morning. I add coffee to the mixture and it holds me until the afternoon where I have another protein drink without the coffee.

This thing has 340 calories but only 2 net carbs. You gotta be a believer in low carb to do this because over the day I will have 4 scoops of this stuff, in heavy cream, bringing my calories up to nearly 1000 a day (my maintenance is only 1200).

😎 However, since I started this 'protocol' this is the second week I have dropped an average of 2 pounds a day.

🏃🏾 Today I plan a 7 mile run. Yesterday I ran 3 miles in the morning and then 5 miles in the evening. Together with my 1 hour walk I do at lunch everyday, I got plenty of exercise and I think I probably have dropped ALL my water weight at this point.

🌟 I cannot say this enough, I take 'Hi-Lyte Electrolyte Concentrate' throughout the day, at least 20 drops three times a day (I also take 8 different vitamin pills). Without the electrolyte concentrate, and plenty of water, I feel I would pass out from such rapid weight loss.

Have a good day everyone!

Thank you for the picture. I’ve been using a different protein powder and can’t get it to mix well in my coffee. I’ll try the Quest

@Tkclemmons - Quest Protein Powder is STUPID expensive (I get it on Amazon for about $36 a tub). However, the taste is out of this world. I also add Splenda to the mixture so it is VERY sweet (I mean 'off the wall sweet' that is required for a sugar addict like myself). I put a huge amount of heavy whipping cream, and notice I have a '2 of Fit & Fresh Portable Drink and Formula Mixer' to get it completely mixed. However, it is still a 'thick syrupy concoction' that hits your stomach (and your bloodstream) so hard you may want to take a short nap after drinking it :)

I could not get it to mix either the first time in hot stuff, mix it cold then heated it up and it worked fine.

That is the same kind I have but the cookies and creme flavor. I got it from Walmart over a year ago for under $20!

You eat more on a fast than I can in a day almost! Awesome

@CrashtestDawnie - I was in WalMart yesterday (to get some more heavy whipping cream for my lunchtime drink), and I did not see it! Can you remember what section?

How do you figure your metabolism is that low when you're losing 2 pounds a day? 2 pounds a day would be a 7k calorie deficit if it were fat. You may be losing lean body mass. I don't know how a 167-pound man can have the daily burn of a 80-pound female. Ever think about having a Dexa scan?

Also, how is this a fast? Sounds more like a liquid diet.

@baskington - For some reason if I put a lot of heavy whipping cream (hot or cold) it mixes 'fully' wit no 'clumps'. With just strait water it doesn't.

@Diablo360x - My 'theory' is that I am depleting my body of glycogen (and the associated water) by eating such low carb, and then exercising so much. This is mostly 'water'. NO WAY it is 'all fat'. It may only be 1 pound of fat every 4 days! I think my 'weight loss' will slow massively from here on because there is not much more water weight to drop. This is why I wanted to go 11 days rather than my usual 5 days. I want to see what happens when I stick to this 'protocol' for an 'extended period'. As far as muscle mass, so far, the 'mirror' seems to show minimal loss. Also, on Thursday I was able to squat 140lbs. Before you laugh keep in mind this a the highest I have ever squatted in my life :)

Oh, I didn't know you had gained some water. Carry on.

The secret to a complete mix if your using some type of mixer, XANTHAN GUM! best stuff in the world for a super smooth emulsion. Water and fat stay blended smooth. You barely need any. 1/4 teaspoon for a smoothie. 😁

@Diablo360x - That is why I start the post off with: 'no solid food fast'. However, not consuming solid food is REALLY important for 'insulin resistant' people like me. When I consume >40 carbs a day I gain weight, period. When I consume food, I can't control myself and I always go over my carbs (but not my calories, I have a calorie deficit every day, even when I am gaining weight - see my chart). I spent WAY too many years (see my 8 year history on this site) trying to 'control' myself and it hasn't worked. As you can see, 'no solid food fasting' has worked for me. I did 'traditional fasting' in the past, but, for me, I lose weight faster by consuming massive amounts of protein and fat. I feel I need the protein because I am still lifting three times a week.

Yeah, when I and others think of fasting it is no calories at all so it seems weird. Sounds a lot more dangerous than it is. This is a rapid fat loss diet. I don't own the books but it sounds like the RFL diet by Lyle McDonald. High protein with a lot of cardio. Keep up the good work!

@jenjabba - For me, <10 carbs a day with MASSIVE exercise is what makes the scale move. I do not believe the 'fasting' is point. It is just a way for a person who 'can't stop cheating' to stick to the damn diet! This is what Dr. Fung says in his book.

Im still working my self up to 48hr fast with just tea, coffee and water I’ve made it to 36-40hrs and I try it during the work week when im more busy! I’ll do like a Monday thru Wednesday time frame it’s easier to skip breakfast and lunch and just do dinner! Sense im new to fasting what would be recommended to get me to 48hrs? I hit major hunger at 39/40hr mark. My goal is 72hr fast

@Diablo360x - Yes it is the same 'basic end result' of the 'RFL diet by Lyle McDonald'. I just use Protein Powder and heavy cream and vitamins and leave out the 'complication' that consuming ANY solid food can have (If I started eating chicken breast I would eventually start eating beef sticks, then want carbs then... Boom! Binge!).

@Mabels Progress - I see what you are doing, and I think you are doing wonderful! Much better than I did at your point. I can only share my own experience so please take anything I say with a 'grain of salt'. Basically, I can only go this long because I 'worked my way up to it' by 'trying to fast' over several months. I believe that, for me, unless my blood sugar is falling (after eating), hunger is 'mental'. I am not hungry, I just WANT to eat. This current 'no solid food fast' is working so well because my body has been trained to consume just this and be happy.

Mabel, the word is spelled "since" not "sence", sorry but everytime I see it I cringe for you. Just an FYI.
