Day 2 of a planned 5 day fast

It seems like I had a big drop, but we just bought a Tanita Ironman InnerScan Body Composition scale, and that could be a reason for the difference.

We bought the scale so that we can see our body fat percentage. My body fat percentage came up at 9%. I started to get excited but then re-read the directions and you are suppose to do the scan 2 hours after you wake up for them to be accurate. I have to be on the freeway going to work 2 hours after I wake up so I will just use the 'relative' values.

I am doing a lousy job of 'water fasting' and keeping my carbs down. My goal Monday-Thursday (I break the fast Friday night) is <8 carbs. However, yesterday I had a 'Monday' and needed 'something' (I really didn't, this is totally a 'mental' thing). I had a Keurig "French Vanilla Cappuccino" (9 carbs!). Together with my "Quest Vanilla Milkshake Protein Powder" that I take in the morning and the evening, I ended up taking in 16 carbs and 600 calories. Half the people on this site on Keto are taking in less carbs and calories!

Anyway, for me it is about controlling my insulin so I am 'fasting' only to keep my carbs down. Today I plan to keep below 8 carbs. The only reason my carbs are that high is the "Quest Vanilla Milkshake Protein Powder" is 2 carbs a scoop and I am up to 3 scoops a day.

Have a great day everyone!

You remind me of the Energizer Bunny - you just keep going and going and going - I admire that!

no 600 calories is way too low for anyone let alone keto folks, would not be able to squeeze in our protein going that low. You have all week to do better. your shake only has one gram of sugar, 1 fiber so it is only 2 net carbs, so with that you are down to 15 carbs. I would not have a clue on your French vanilla. but it might have fiber in it too. You would be doing your body good to split that protein shake into 2 or 3 drinks during the day. would be a neat experiment.

@nikeit - I started slowly, then just got 'used to it'. I definitely cannot eat breakfast and lunch during the week. Eventually I will have to start eating dinner...

Interesting. I think my scale has a body fat indicator but I've never checked it out. I'd have to do the 2-hour wait thing on the weekend. (But if I had a 9% reading I'd take it and happy dance out of the room!)

@SoCalPam - I was thinking the same thing, but 3 months ago, in April, I was "obese". Can I really go from that to 9% body fat?? I mean I'll take it, but... :)

actually yes you can 3 months of long term fasting does a lot of change. Your high activity level really makes a difference. It is good for you to report for yourself, but we all think you are doing awesome.

"I am doing a lousy job of 'water fasting' and keeping my carbs down" -- Ade's Pig Voice inside him. The real Ade was 203 lbs on April 24th 90 days or so back. That's right folks, 30 lbs ago. Go Ade Go!!!
