Day 1 of a planned 2 day fast

This weekend's refeeding plan (eating for three days after a Sunday night-Friday night fast) went great! Dr. Fung says it is normal to regain some weight after a fast (https://bit.ly/2KIQr8h), but he doesn't say you HAVE to gain weight.

I only gained 1 pound in this refeeding :) In my previous refeeding I gained 4 pounds, and I gained 10 pounds in the refeeding before that!

What I did different this time was keep my carbs under 30 net carbs (my food log will show higher carbs but that is because the "ThinSlim Foods Love-The-Taste Low Carb Bread" is showing 7 carbs a slice when it is 0 net carbs per slice, and the "Quest Oatmeal Raisin Protein Cookie" is only 3 net carbs).

As with previous weekends I ran at least 5 miles a day and walked 20k steps.

It feels great to know that I do not HAVE to gain weight during refeeding. Gaining large amounts of weight during refeeding caused me to lose only 1 net pound in a 16 day period (this was last week) even though I had fasted 10 of those days!

I believe that this is purely a mental issue. For this reason, I am not going to be too hard on myself because I felt I 'deserved' a Big Mac every day during my past refeeding. I needed to go though that 'mental step' until I got tired of it.

I never feel I ever 'fail' at fasting. When I started fasting I would drink McDonald's milk shakes the first few days (106 carbs!). I needed to do that to get over the 'mental hurdle' of not eating solid food for an entire day! There is no way I could have just jumped into drinking only water all day!

Some people think I am strong because I fast. It is the exact opposite! I have no will power to do Keto properly. I don't even do fasting properly. I am only suppose to drink water during a fast (or home made bone broth). Therefore my carbs should be 5 carbs max (from the bone broth). After three months of fasting I STILL do 10-20 carbs a day (from sugar added to liquids I consume like flavored coffee).

Simply, I suck really bad at fasting!

Right now, this is the best I can do. But, I am not giving up. This is my choice and my body. I am no longer letting anyone tell me that I have to continue to be obese all my adult life because I can't do things 'their way'. I have (and continue to find), my own path :)

After months of fasting, I am now comfortable fasting Monday-Friday. The only reason I am breaking things up this week is that I plan to eat BBQ on Wednesday because we have July 4th in the States.

Ok my twin. You are too hard on yourself. Keep calm and FAST on. You are winning. Your fasting muscle is killing my biceps with it's strength. I am trying to catch you on your fasting discipline. Enjoy your Wednesday as I will enjoy my Thirsty Thursday. Today will be OMAD for me MINIMUM and if I do do OMAD I will be sub 60 grams of carbs (My sweet spot). Don't forget, work on finding YOUR sweet spot. For all you know, your sweet spot could be 45 but, self experimenting and logging will reveal it. "I suck at Fasting" Ha! You are a CHAMP at fasting. Refeed up 10, then refeed up 4 now a refeed up 1. Looks like someone is dialing it in and making it count. Go Ade Go!!!

@chesgreen - Thanks man! You are so correct that I need to find my "sweet spot" for my daily "carb number". 20-40 seems about right. Also, I just hope that people can see that even if a knucklehead like me can lose weight, anyone can!

Great job keeping your carbs down! I'm thinking you might enjoy to try and get a quicker (and easier!) result with intermittent fasting. After dinner, wait 16 hours before breakfast. It would be a breeze for you because you're already used to fasting. I strongly recommend giving it a try! :)That's it! During the 8 hours when you have your meals, choose foods that have a high ratio of nutrition to calories. During fasting, whenever you catch yourself feeling that your "going without", remind yourself that you've made the choice to "going with" good health and receive that gift that only you can give yourself. Whenever you crave a treat that isn't on your healthy menu, you can ask yourself which you would rather give yourself, a short-lived taste pleasure, or good health and a slimmer you that lasts a lifetime. :)

What I find most inspiring about your journey Abef is that you found what works for you!! You learned to listen to your body. So don’t sell yourself short. I’m still struggling to figure out what my body wants from me. Currently I’m convinced that it wants to keep the weight but Im not going to listen that lol

@CrashtestDawnie - You can re-train your body. Cravings, what you feel your body wants, usually come from the environment in your lower digestive tract, the bacteria that are part of the digestive process, sending signals as to what they're used to getting. The bacteria change according to what they're fed. As you eat healthier foods, the bacteria that thrive on those nutrients will become more than those that feed on sugar, etc., and your cravings will be for healthy foods. Of course, you're right, everyone is different, but still, you have a lot of ability to change it! Keep going :)
