JockoT's Journal, 04 Jun 16

Had quite a good day yesterday. I ate well and was moving about quite well. Still suffering from terrible trapped wind though.
Woke this morning with really rancid sweat. Had to strip the bed and shower right away. I don't know if it is the meds that are causing that. I have managed to pull a staple in the night and my dressing was spotted with blood. Still feeling good though. We'll see what today brings.

My wife doesn't want me to lose any more weight. She says I am skinny enough, and any more will make me look ill. I am now in the Green, Healthy Weight range of the NHS calculator (BMI less than 25). I still feel I could happily lose another Stone.

Probably best to try to keep to the same weight while you're recuperating. See how you feel later on in the summer.

Don't be surprised if you crash later in the day! I agree totally with Debra's comment yesterday. You need rest and good nutrition, and you will need extra calories because of the healing process. Regarding further weight loss, if you're only just into the 'healthy' area with your weight, I would say lose a few more pounds, but there's no rush to do this, so do it when you are fit again. I have to say, I've found the last couple of months very interesting. I've not been recording food, and weighing only occasionally, but it seems my weight loss period has retrained my eating habits, so even though I felt I was pigging out at times, I've only put a few pounds on, and I know I can easily lose those again. What I'm trying to say is, I was afraid that I would gain quickly if I stopped losing, but that wasn't the case. I suspect you would find the same thing, so.... give yourself a break!

PS, I think the wind thing could last for a time. It's because they've opened you up. You could try Deflatine tablets, containing simeticone, helps to release the wind. Or peppermint tea. Or massaging your tummy gently in a clockwise direction. Lying on different sides also helps.

Hey Jocko! Glad to hear you are up and around. Walking will relieve a lot of that trapped gas. Just give it time. Hope you don't pull out any more staples. That has to be painful. Take is easy.

Like Mom said, movement will really help. I don't understand why the nurse won't come to your house. They know you can't do the stairs, don't they?
