Just took delivery of two tubs of Coconut Oil. Could someone tell me what I can do with it?

That is such a tempting lead in for some smutty ideas but I'll resist. I use coconut oil for frying. I've done roasties and Yorkshires with it and got good results although I do prefer the more traditional beef dripping or duck/goose fat. Finally, I sometimes use about half a teaspoonful, melted in my hands, as hair wax, believe it or not. It works really well. I'll let someone else explain using it in coffee as I can't get my head around that as it sounds disgusting.

Use it to make curries with or any other dish that you think can take a coconut flavour. There are two types you can buy - one which has the coconut flavour and the other is flavourless (and it's cheaper - the make is KTC). They are both supposed to have the same things in them that are good for you so I generally use the KTC for frying foods that wouldn't suit a coconut flavour - such as eggs.

I tried a little in a cup of coffee. Made no appreciable difference to the taste but left a greasy residue on the surface which gets on your lips. It was not unpleasant but probably not to everyone's taste.

another one that's hard to resist...

Carmen! You had to go say what I was resisting, didn't you? 😉

Jocko, I think the theory with coffee is to whisk it so it's an emulsion but I'm not sure. Can someone help out here?

Bulletproof coffee (basic recipe) - 1 cup of coffee, 1 tablespoon of pure butter, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Blend to emulsion and use as a meal replacement - usually breakfast, one or two cups. Tastes OK but I'm not sure about the benefits really.

Cheers, Doobrie. I think the theory is that it gives you calories without the insulin spike which would go with breaking your fast on the 16:8 IF programme. I've absolutely no idea if it works but some people swear by it. Personally, I prefer my coffee in the morning to be a hot, watery drink but you all know I'm a believer that people are different and have to experiment to find what works for them.

Absolutely! I like my coffee with a large helping of whole milk but I know a lot of people wouldn't agree.

Oh Carmen! I wasn't telling you off! It was a joke and I'm sorry you didn't realise that - lost in translation. What you said was exactly what I was trying to avoid saying ... And I suspect Jocko won't be offended 😉 At least, I hope not. Px

It is the KTC I have bought. Didn't want to spend a lot and find I hated it. My morning kickstart has to be a cup of tea. First coffee is usually lunchtime. Suzy, your idea sounds good too. My local bakers sells bottles of strawberry tart jelly. Thought of getting some of that for a similar purpose!!!

So good for you you can do whatever you want with it, we use it for stir frying, but go on google you'll see tons of ideas some that may amaze you and even shock you 😧

Mrs T has just tried it on her arms to see how it feels. My intention is to use it mainly for frying.

Coconut oil has immense health benefits, very effective as a remedy for joint pain and problems, lots more just go look. In cooking, it has a much higher heat tolerance before turning rancid, as most vegetable oils do when heated. When rancid on heating, most vegetable oils have similar properties to six year old re used lard

Jacko- sounds very interesting to me. Whatever way you use it, I am certain you will enjoy it.

You guys are too funny! I substitute for any and all oils. (frying eggs, etc) I like it in my coffee because it gives me a head buzz (I think more clearly) and it makes me feel satisfied : )

Started using it for frying. Not too fussed about putting it in coffee. Didn't like the oily lips the coffee gave me.

JockoT you can also substitute it for butter. It is really lovely spread on bread (might have to melt slightly if consistency too hard). I also melt it over vegetables and I do like it in coffee though fully understand what you say about the ' lips '.... not to everyone 's taste I suppose!! As suggested by someone else "Mr Google" can offer many other suggestions. Have fun experimenting - took me a while to get used to it but now really love it 😉

I add a little to any nurtri bullet shakes I'm having, also add it to breakfast oats, or banana pancakes, love the coconut flavour in the background, plus it's great for your skin, nails and hair etc, very multi purpose. .xxx
