LadyinDenim's Journal, 01 Sep 16

My life, house, diet, and family are messy, but I am going to keep rolling with it. When I resumed FS back in May, there was a core group of people having great success with LCHF. With the addition of IF, these people achieved their goals and have, for the most part, moved on.

There has been negative backlash here against LCHF that has created a toxic environment on the boards. There is a general air of people feeling defensive when it comes to their WOE. Well, food is very personal, so this is to be expected.

Yet, if we all set our journals to private, there is little opportunity to give and receive support and to share our journeys.

Anyway, I am changing my diet to LCHF/IF because it most accurately expresses what I am trying to do, and when people read my profile, they can see for themselves what my goals are. I will include helpful links in my bio. I will continue to document my journey in words and pictures.

I will also continue to weigh daily. This is a sticky point, because some people think of daily posted weights as spam. Well, I disagree!

Life is messy.

I've been LCHF since mid Feb - down almost 40 pounds - so I'm a fan!

I think that the weight loss road, for each of us, is highly personal. After 3 months of largely ( and I do mean largely) lack of success with calorie restriction, I have gone the "Eat to Live" vegan route. Why? Because I genuinely love fruits and veg and you can eat a ton of this stuff. I know (hope) that I can stick with this food plan and adopt some life changes in my relationship to food. If I am eating to soothe emotional needs, then better a bowl of strawberries than a pack of Oreos. I do think it's important to keep a somewhat open food, exercise and journal board. It's less about what type of diet we are each on, but more about holding hands as we walk down the road. I don't see Atkins, or LCHF, or calorie restriction, or vegetarianism working. What I see is people striving for a difficult and achievable goal. And that m'dears is what's inspiring. Don't ever believe it is the diet that's doing it. It's all about your strength and tenacity!

I am crazy inspired by Annette Larkins, but I know I could not do what she does right now. It is labor intensive and I am a historically lazy person. I predict my energy level will continue to perk up, however, and in the future, my diet will regularly include more veg, although I can't say I have a current goal to consume exclusively veg.

Lady, your post is wise. I refuse to get pulled into the negative posts because my journey is personal to me and I won't be swayed by the negative. I love the support, advice and help I get here and you've been a large part of that. So, however we do it, we'll continue to ignore and we'll make our way to ultimate success. We're going to win this together, all of us. The negative is just a hindrance to our goals.

IMO the important thing is to find the eating/living plan that works for you as an individual. If LCHF is a good fit for you then that's the thing to do. There's no reason we can't support each other irregardless of whether we are all eating the same way or not. Wishing you success on your journey.

Agreed. It's healthy to accept people and trust them to find their best path. I get it that folk will jump in and express concern in cases where folk are displaying symptoms of anorexia nervosa, which can be deadly. Face it, obesity can also bring deadly consequences. We are all doing something life altering and walking individual tightropes. There are also alcoholics and drug addicts here. Some are recovering and others are active in their addictions. We really are most effective when we can love and accept people for where they are right now, and trust they will find what they need among the diverse personalities and resources they encounter.

You should weigh daily. Here's hoping you can make it a long way down your journey.

Wishing us all success and a healthy journey to our desired goals using whatever method works best for us. FS is so great I can usually ignore the agitators because the benefits of this site offsets the negativity. And the power of delete is a nice option.

Well said, Lady! And as Chica says, delete is an awesome option. Just don't feed the trolls. ;)

I support everyone's weight loss no matter how they choose to do it. We all have the same goal to be leaner and healthier. Calorie counting is working for me right now so I will continue my journey and support others on theirs.

Mine is private for various reasons. I wish we had an option to allow our bio to be public, then is show up in a search if I was on LCHF or by age, and then you could see something about be and choose to buddy me or not. Til then, I do buddy requests on people who comment on my buddies journals that i like..

I usually don't post anything, but I do read other posts, and felt I needed to respond to yours. I was trying to lose about 10 lbs. which isn't much, but it's what I needed to lose. I tried all different diets, ww, menopause, metabolic, blood type you name it. Nothing worked. I would go up and down everyday , Then I watched a video on Ketogenics. which is LC/HF , at the same time my work office started a competition of walking 10000. steps a day. between doing those two things, steps and keto, I have lost 6 lbs so far. I still can't get my carbs down to 5 or 10 percent, I average about 20 to 25. Bottom line!! Find out what works for your body, and stick to it, cause no two people are alike inside. Then block out the useless chatter!

i agree with you ladyD; i really don't care about details about the chemestry, it it works and i feel ok and my labs are ok. that is all that matters to me. i try to let others do their own thing. and i miss the comradery that we used to have among the hflc village

Everybody has something (if only one thing) that works for them. I heard the term used "brand of science". Whether this was a correct term or not, it kind of has a nice ring to it. What might work for me to lose weight, might actually put weight ON you! So: the arguments and put downs about LCHF on here ARE RIDICULOUS, I agree, Lady, thank you for that, and I appreciate you for keeping about your WOE on despite the ridiculousness!

Another way you are strong, Lady!

Well said. Do what works for you and don't worry about anyone trying to convince you differently. I have been muddling along, doing my own thing for a while here. I'll be the first to admit that I ignore any advice that doesn't apply to the way I want to live. I have also learned a great deal about what options are out there in terms of ways of eating. I am still running across new ideas, prompting searches and online reading to inform myself about them. I try to keep an open mind and understand how other folks are approaching this challenge to keep ourselves healthy and fit. Never know when I might discover something I hadn't thought of that might work for me.

It's pointless to argue with people that have no experience struggling with morbid obesity, for them, it's like learning to swim without jumping in the water, all theory, no application.

golly; so many people that make good sense here on this thread!! glad to be here on FS

:::thumbs up::: it's about understanding each other, we can support each other whether we have the same WOE/lifestyle or not-we are all on the same journey.
