rusty0908's Journal, 22 Jun 16

So, I've tried this intermittent fasting thing so many of y'all were talking about and actually really like it. I've done 16:8 for about the last week and feel pretty good.....except I can't sleep at night. I know fasting is supposed to give energy, but I am so wired I could probably skip bed altogether. Is this normal?? Does it pass with time?

LOL, rusty, you need to give yourself time to adjust. The energy levels will balance out. Also, what time are you eating? When I was on 16:8 my meals were breakfast and lunch. I intentionally did not eat later for the exact reason of not sleeping at night. Too wired and awake. I just changed my eating times. Now I do 23:1. And I sleep like a baby. And DAMN I feel energized all day long. Yet, I sleep like a rock when I hit the bed. I don't even have nightmares any more. Well, not often.

OK, that makes it sound like I will adjust. That's good news!!! :) My window is 12p-8p, but I rarely eat after 6 or maybe 7. I've been eating lots of veggies and a bit of rice or maybe sweet potato and thought the carbs would help me sleep. I'm like the energizer bunny! I wouldn't mind switching to 23:1, but will probably stick with this until things balance out a bit. I had terrible headaches the first few days. So glad those went away! I have almost zero hunger all day long.

Welcome to fat burning heaven. LOL Yeah, it will stabilize. When you IF, you flip a switch on a big power plant that never runs out of fuel. The headachy part was was the switch. I was never a breakfast eater, so I've pretty much always done moderate IF. Now I'm riding along with the 23:1 challenge, and it's not that much harder. I do get a little hungry a couple of hours before my 'window' opens, but nothing unbearable. Then, when I DO eat, I can only manage a few bites before I'm full! Double bonus!

Lol. I pretty much still avoid most carbs. Look at my food calendar. Mimic that, and you can say goodbye to hunger. I too had the headaches. But like Ms. K those went by the wayside.

This is great news. I seem to be adapting to fasting rather quickly. I'm not going anywhere near the scale, but just enjoying the lack of hunger and the energy. Msk, I don't seem to have much of an appetite after fasting either. Do you try to maintain a certain caloric minimum or just eat what your body tells you to eat?

its good your not hungry after fasting..most times your not..would be good to keep your food journal up to date so you can look back from time to time to tweak it...

What Wannab said is dead on. Track EVERYTHING!!!! It is super helpful to know exactly what your body is doing.

Nope..I eat until I'm not hungry any more. Not stuffed, mind you, just not hungry. Then I *can't* eat any more...one more bite would make me throw up. Or at least it feels that way. I'm running an average 1500-200 kcal deficit most days, and feel terrific! I don't worry about fuel, because I'm keto adapted, and have access to a big ole warehouse of energy 24/7. ;)

That should read *1500-2000 kcal deficit...

YAY for hunger control. I actually had food on my plate when I finished eating today. That's a first in a LONG time. So, I will be reducing my EGG count. Yes, its only 1200 calories intake, but hey, If im not hungry, im not going to eat. That's puts me in a 2442 Kcal deficit.

Wow. Those are huge deficits. I do like the control that IF gives. It definitely takes away that drive to eat.

Too true. #realfatburnhapnin And oddly enough, I have yet to feel the dreaded, metabolic slowdown the professionals all say WILL HAPPEN!!!! Dun dun DUUUUUUN. Yeah, ummm its been 2 months with IF now. Wheres the slow down. lol.

It has also taken away this former "foodie's" interest in food. Now I go for fuel, not for pleasure. Never in a million years did I think I'd ever say that!
