rusty0908's Journal, 14 Jun 16

** I haven't posted in my journal for several days due to one rude @sshole making an unkind response last week. I don't seek confrontation, but am not afraid to handle it so it's weird that this has led to some hesitation to post. Whatever. Moving on.

I've been stuck at the exact same weight for three days despite being on down days and eating super low carb. Theoretically, I should drop the water weight I gained from an up day within no more than three days so I'm not sure what's going on. My fibromyalgia is flared up so maybe that has something to do with it. I had also started using flavored packets in my water. It could be the artificial sweeteners are messing with me. I know they stall many people. They could also be part of the trigger for my fibro. I've been really active the last couple weeks too tho and that can act as a trigger. At any rate, I'm ditching the flavor packets and chugging plain water and will see what tomorrow brings.

So far, this metabolic tune up isn't working as promised. I'm switching insurance in July. Ditching worthless Kaiser and going with United. I'm shopping for a new doctor who can hopefully help me figure out what's going on hormonally. The trick is to find one with knowledge and experience in both weight loss and women's hormones. If someone comes at me with the old calories in, calories out rhetoric I'm going to scream. My goal this summer is to simply maintain my current weight within five pounds. I've gained 20 in the last year while dieting/low carbing. Something isn't right.

There are all kinds of people in this world. Do not allow the actions of one to change anything you do. So sorry this happened to you.

I agree. It's all about hormone regulation. Have you looked into fasting? They are finding that fasting can help in balancing hormones.

Thanks Chattycathy. That's very true!

Kpp, I haven't looked into it specifically for hormone regulation. Is there a specific book or plan you would recommend?

I'm 66 and am doing intermittent fasting with my low carb plan and it's going well. I keep net carbs below 30 and fast 15-16 hours (from dinner to breakfast) and have eating "windows" from 8-9 hours. I do find that I have to keep calories around 1400 or less to lose weight, even with low carb. I eat in 2-3 distinct "meals" with no snacking. I finally got the message that every time you eat you're producing insulin that wants to make fat out of your meal. Less meals, less insulin, less fat storage. You might re-visit what you ate and how often you were eating when you gained on low carb to see if it's possible that it was just too many calories for you. I know, we are given the idea that calories don't count on low carb and I ignored them myself until it appeared I was going to get nowhere by ignoring them. However, low calories with low carb is not hard to do at all because eating fat keeps me satisfied. A wild card for you is the fibromyalgia and any meds you might be taking for it. Sounds like you've been doing something like alternate-day dieting? I tried that too - concluded it would work better for me on a maintenance program. I hope ditching the artificial sweeteners helps you - you may find that your weight will suddenly drop once they are out of the picture. Also your increased activity may cause a little water retention. Best wishes!

There are many ways to tell someone something and being nasty is not included in these ways. Maybe you have something constructive to say. If it is something that is hurtful in any way any constructiveness that may be in your message is lost. Moving on does not mean we forget. It means we have chosen to move on in spite of someones nastiness. It is really hard for me to comprehend that they think because someone is on this site that they are looking for someone being nasty or putting them down. I think its very sad. Personally I would block that person.

I have encountered people who set up confrontation because they get off on the ensuing fight. Very sick and creepy. The experience can be hard to shake. You can delete anyone's comment from your journal but I don't know of any way to block someone on FS. Do you, Cathy?

I would look into seeing a nutritionist. I was stuck doing LCHF and they switched me to low fat - 45g fat, 300g carbs. Have been steadily dropping since. I have no medical issue with higher carbs like other have.

Trackin if you put your profile to buddies only you won't have to deal with any of that. Then you can garner your support from your true buddies who care about you and people can still request for you to be their buddies. What horrible kind of people make those derogatory remarks? Just terrible.. they should be ashamed of themselves. Are they where they want to be or are they jealous because others have the support of good people who truly care. Anyone with an attitude like that doesn't care.

Thanks Trackin. IF makes sense in the context of limiting insulin release. I'm sure my issue is hormonal. I was trying Carb Nite which is supposed to help replenish hormones, but that didn't fit too well for me. Not eating certain foods for so many years, then gorging on them was not a pleasant experience. I had read up on Gary Heavin's ideas for reboosting metabolism, but that doesn't seem to be working so well either. I've heard sometimes we end up gaining a little in the healing process. I'm going to read up more on the fasting tho. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Thanks Redgirl. Yeah, I know you had your own issues. I know the type and choose not to suffer a fool. I can delete a lot quicker than he can post and would rather everyone just ignore the toxin. I have high hopes for United. It sure can't be any worse than Kaiser!

Thanks for that input Jorge. It's easy to get stuck on doing one thing, but that's a good reminder to be open to other options. It's all about finding what's best for our individual bodies.

Thanks for the support chattycathy. Yes, we can set our journals to only allow buddies/positive people to post but that would limit us from meeting new people. Fortunately the trolls are far less abundant than the really good people who post to the boards.

This is very true.

You are the third or fourth person that has commented about having a bully post on your page. I don't know if they have malicious intent or if they are just being mean but tell them to go pound sand. This is your truth, your journal, your journey! My grandmother has to manage with fibromyalgia and from experience she goes through tremendous bouts of water weight gain and it is more difficult for her to lose it than the average body type! You keep up your journey and let the negative side of people stay with them. As one of my favorite persons reminds all of her friends to do "Rock on and spread the love!"

Thanks guys. Just a hungry, impotent, little troll. Not worth acknowledging. Super easy to just ignore and delete.
